Reviews For Cocoa Nut Protein Bar
Based on 29 Reviews
I love the taste and the texture of these. To me they taste intensely figgy. They're especially good with strong cup of coffee. My favorite bar ever!
I love the idea of these bars [clean, sustainable protein] and the way they keep me full for hours. They are especially good paired with strong, unsweetened coffee or tea. I would like to see more products available using cricket flour.
These are the greatest protein bars, so delicious, healthy, sustainable and made with crickets!
perfect if you don't have issues with cocoa. I have and can't eat those late at night, so mornings only. But, seriously tasty, and keeps you going for a long time.
Love the non-meat protein source, very tasty and satisfying, not too crickets, rather have this than a Lara Bar!
Gross. Dry with unpleasant aftertaste.
I love the apple cinnamon bars, but these are gross. They're really dry and they have an unpleasant aftertaste. I can only eat them if I chase each bite with a drink. I don't want to waste them, so they are going in my emergency food stash.
Great, room to grow!
I've eaten a lot of protein bars. Most are terrible at best, candy or inedible at worst. The cocoa nut is delicious, although in my opinion should be more of a energy bar than protein bar. The fat/carb/protein balance could be better.
I have raised mealworms and crickets as a protein source and though they worked with a chef to get the recipe right, I feel they could have added a lot more cricket flour without affecting the flavour and made it viable as an actual protein bar.
The taste of these is horrible. I feel like I am eating vomit when I try to eat them.
I have loved these bars since they first hit the market over a year ago. They have modified the formula a bit during that time but they are still a go to when I am hungry in the office and need a solid snack. Not sure why people think they are nasty, I have eaten a ton of "nasty" protein bars in my time and these are pretty delicious.
Good after a workout.
I have come to like these bars quite a lot! Although, I do prefer the blueberry flavor, they both offer a great amount of protein and carbs. It's perfect for me since I am working on muscle gain so I eat one after every gym session.
The cocoa nut flavor is somewhat sweeter than I would like and the taste is quite off from what it is supposed to taste like. But it serves it's purpose.

First off, these are Gluten Free and that is why I bought them. I eat protein bars while I am at my desk at work being that I work long hours. I was a little nervous being that these are made of cricket flower. Yes, Crickets.
I prefer these to Whey protein sometimes and prefer the crunch and texture to granola bars. The flavor is good, they sweeten these very well and the flavor is what they say it is. It smells like a good sandwich.
I would buy these again and leave them out at parties so that my friends can see how different food can be.

Revolutionary and Delicious!
I'll mention this first because it was also my biggest concern: No, these do not taste like cricket or have any "crickety" textures, and yes, it's extremely fine-ground (i.e. I didn't find any cricket legs or antenae while eating my bar; trust me, I looked). I'd heard about crickets as an alternative source of protein and health-wise, they're actually great for you. I got two of these bars free in one of my orders and finally mustered up the courage to open one up and try it. Definitely didn't disappoint. Not only were they exceptionally delicious for a bar food, I could feel in my body just how filling and nutritious they were over the course of the day without any sort of sugar high/crash. The timing of the sample actually couldn't have been more perfect as my boyfriend is finally getting on board with the idea of cutting meat out of our diet for environmental/water conservation purposes, starting with red meat. Pound for pound of protein, it takes exponentially more resources to produce red meat than it does to produce cricket protein. As much as I love hamburgers and steaks, I initially switched to only free range, grass-fed, organic meat to regulate how often I would have it but I've recently cut out even that just based on how much water it takes to process.
I can't wait to try their other flavors, and props to Thrive Market for making an effort to expand people's palates in an environmentally friendly way.

I loved the original version. But since my last order they seem to have changed the formula and/or ingredients. Now they are bordering on slimy and gooey. They used to be drier, and taste way better (to me at least) - five stars. But now I'd go 3 or less. It would've been very nice to know about this very big change before I ordered two more boxes.
So I got 2 free bars when thrive was giving them away. I love the idea of cricket flour, sustainable, ect. However, if it doesn't taste good, I don't want to eat it. The texture is bad, and dry. The bar itself has 10g protein, 13g sugar (from dates, coconut, honey-but still) and 23g carbs. If you are looking just for a snack bar, pass on these and grab a larabar. If you are looking for a gag gift or a conversation starter-get the Exo Cricket bar. Doesn't taste like crickets, doesn't taste like a brownie that some people have said. Does kind of remind me of Powerbars from when I was a kid-they tasted AWFUL and I didnt get why people ate them. Must be for the protein? Id rather eat an egg :P
Once you get over the fact that these are made from crickets, you will love them!
Cricket Flour - YUM!
If it didn't say 'cricket flour' on the wrapper, you would never know that's what it's made with! I truly think these are the perfect snack, super tasty and very satisfying.
This bar has all-natural ingredients while staying high in protein and fiber. I highly recommend this bar for a healthy, sustainable, and delicious pick-me-up!
I like almost everything and this was the worst thing I have ever tasted. I almost couldn't swallow it and almost threw up. So nasty!
Not even worth 1 star. Maybe if you are on Naked and Afraid you might appreciate it. It is beyond me that anyone could like this product. Sorry.
I just got two of these bars for free on my last order from Thrive. I think if you are into sports pretty hard (like cycling) and need an energy bar that packs a punch and is not terrible, this is for you. If you have been living on energy bars for a while, then you will probably like this. It's fairly soft and easy to chew. It breaks easy and can be a bit messy. Texture is ok. Is a little dry. a bit bitter. But for an all natural and minimal ingredient type of energy bar, this is pretty decent. I only gave it 3 stars as I took a few bites, and decided to save it for when I was starving. If you are newer to energy bars, try one first before ordering a case.
Cool idea for protein source, and a delicious product!
Chirp Chirp Hooray
Love it. Sweet but not too sweet. Good texture, and moist for a protein bar. This is my go to snack after work before hitting the gym.
Crickets Never Tasted So Good
Great source of sustainable protein, and seriously delicious.

My husband liked these well enough but I thought they were really dry and a little gritty. The taste wasn't bad but I couldn't get through a whole bar because it was like eating sand.
I ordered this with no expectations, as most "Paleo friendly" bars aren't fantastic. These are great, and reasonably priced all things considered. I make sure to add a box with each order.
Yummy, and surprisingly filling.. does NOT taste like bugs..... :)
Just a great on-the-go protein bar!
These are really good! Not too sweet, no odd after taste, just yummy.
They weren't too sweet like some sugar laden protein bars are. We'll be ordering again.
my favorite flavor
The blueberry vanilla and apple cinnamon flavors are nice, but the cacao nut is awesome. Whereas the fruit flavors have a chewy, sticky texture, the cacao is firmer and a bit crumbly, with crunchy bits from the cacao nibs. I am totally in favor of supporting sustainable protein sources, so this flavor will be a regular purchase for me.
I must admit that I was fascinated with the idea of using cricket flour in a food product. However, that it fit into a Paleo type food plan, was the final reason for me to purchase. Glad I did - this bar is delicious!! Not sickly sweet, but more than satisfies my sweet tooth. And for those who can't get past the idea of eating cricket anything - don't worry, there is nothing about these bars that would have you believing you were partaking of an insect!
