If you have children in your house, there’s a strong likelihood you already know about Annie’s. This brand makes incredibly popular bunny crackers, creamy macaroni and cheese, condiments, and other snacks the whole family can enjoy. But even with its commercial success, Annie’s wants more—especially when it comes to supporting the planet. The brand supports several regenerative practices, such as converting conventional farmland to Certified Organic acreage, and helping farmers to develop Carbon Farm Plans, noting that “using multiple methods of Carbon Farming increases the rate at which CO2 is removed from the atmosphere and converted to plant material and/or soil organic matter.”

The History of Annie’s

Annie’s Homegrown started with the belief that it was possible to build a socially conscious business that could also be successful. Annie Withey started selling her now-famous mac and cheese from her car trunk in 1989, and it’s grown to become one of the brand’s most popular items. Thirty years later, the mission remains the same.

Annie’s Company Mission

Based in Berkeley, Calif., Annie’s believes when you eat organic food, you’re not only caring for your own family’s health, but the health of the planet. Offering accessible, organic food and being a sustainable brand doesn’t just extend to the products. Employees ride bikes to work, snack on fruits and veggies grown in the backyard garden, and even stock recycled toilet paper in the bathrooms.

Benefits of Annie’s

Annie’s is focused on organic ingredients, which the brand believes are better for everyone—you, farmers, animals, and the environment. The brand is proud to be Certified Organic, which means non-GMO ingredients and no toxic pesticides, plus fewer chemicals in the soil, water, and air. With an emphasis on regenerative agriculture, Annie’s works with farmers on initiatives that help bring soil back to life and protect the farming communities where it sources ingredients. Inside the office, Annie’s adopts a zero-waste philosophy, with a goal of diverting 90 percent of its waste away from landfills. In addition to strategically managing energy usage, Annie’s tracks its monthly water consumption, and incorporates practices that help limit daily use whenever possible.
