The History of Chocolove

The offices of Chocolove are tucked away in Boulder, Colorado, where master makers have been creating crave-worthy chocolate bars using classic European techniques for two decades. Today, the company offers 24 unique flavors ranging from classic milk chocolate to hazelnut. The brand’s focus on love is apparent in its name and its packaging. Each bar is designed to look like a romantic letter, with a poem tucked inside the wrapping. In the early days, Chocolove was a modest operation sold out of founder Timothy Moley’s garage. His passion started in Indonesia, when he was volunteering with the government agency USAID and began chewing on cocoa beans while he worked. After returning home from abroad, Moley decided to start his own chocolate business. The operation remained small until 2005, when his bars were picked up by food stores like Whole Foods, Wild Oats, and Gelson’s.

The supply chain includes eight entities (farmer, co-op, exporter, roaster, Chocolove headquarters, distributor, store, and consumer), and the brand looks out for everyone, like offering employees fully paid health care benefits and higher salaries. In the field, Chocolove sources its ingredients through ethical means, pays farmers fairly, and upholds International Labor Organization standards when it comes to child labor laws in cocoa bean harvesting.
