The History of Crofter’s

Crofter's Organic is proud to be family-owned and operated. Gerhard and Gabi Latka (who still own Crofter’s today), founded Crofters in 1989 in Parry Sound, Ontario, a small northern commuinty in Canada. From the very beginning, Crofters had two major commitments, more nutritious foods and focus on sustainable agriculture. Long before natural and organic claims became popular, Crofters was already producing products that focused on reducing sugar content and fully committed to orgnaic agriculture. Today, Crofters has become the largest brand of organic fruit spreads in North America, and our commitment to our customers and the evironment has only grown stronger. .

That’s why we’ve taken this popular, cravable food and made a more modern, tasty, nutritious way to jam out by upgrading the fruit power and decreasing the sugar content by 33%. Each serving of Crofter’s is only 30 calories. Now that’s 30 calories well spent.

Our suppliers are one of the most important parts of our business, and although they may be across the globe, we consider them all to be a part of our fruit-spread-making family. Here at Crofter’s, our heart is in the conservation of the environment and the wellbeing of all living things, be they bear, bee, or human. That’s why we’ve focused on responsible farming and integrated sustainable processes into all facets of our business. We know that every little bit adds up to one big difference. We created a processing facility with an itty-bitty environmental footprint. We recycle 99% of our raw materials’ packaging, use a natural gas generator instead of relying on the grid, and we have our very own wastewater treatment plant which has reduced our water consumption by over 85%! We also have systems that ‘recycle’ heat to warm our buildings and provide us with hot water, preventing the need to run a seperate heating system. And of course, our jars are 100% recyclable.
