As a young man, Joel Dee knew what it meant to own and operate a business. After all, the iconic “Smarties” candy was developed by Ce De Inc., his father’s company. As a young, traveling vegetarian salesman, Dee had a difficult time finding restaurants that met his dietary needs. Upon his travels in Belgium, he found freeze-dried miso powder in a small health food store and knew there wasn’t an existing market in the states.

By 1978, Dee launched Edward & Sons Trading Company and introduced his Instant Miso-Cup soup mix. Today, the company continues to produce this wholesome, vegetarian option for American shoppers among other delicious foods catering to a vegetarian diet.
