Put a piece in every pot of beans cooked from dried

There's a pandemic, so I'm cooking a lot of beans at home. Cans and pouches are hard to find (here at Thrive and also in my local stores); dried beans are everywhere. I use my crockpot to cook beans, often leaving them overnight, and I throw a piece of Kombu sea vegetable in every batch. Theoretically, this softens the beans and thickens the broth. Does it work? Hard to say, but it is a trivally easy extra step, and my family thinks my home cooked beans are at least as good as the ones from the can or pouch, so I'll keep adding a few cents worth of seaweed every time.

Yes it definitely seems to improve digestibility of legumes. Also a replacement for Maggi in Filipino cuisine. Flavor for dashi is unparalleled. Love this kombucha and good, responsive customer service!
