One of the ways to boost your oral health is by using chewing gum. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), “the physical act of chewing increases salivary flow in the mouth; if chewed after eating, the increased salivary flow can help neutralize and wash away the acids that are produced when food is broken down by the bacteria in plaque on teeth.” That’s the good news. The bad news is that there are loads of artificial sweeteners in many chewing gums on the market such as high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, dextrose, and others. Although more research is needed to determine how detrimental it may be to consume aspartame, studies have found that when “consuming high-aspartame diets, participants had more irritable mood, exhibited more depression, and performed worse on spatial orientation tests.” Instead of waiting around for more studies, here’s an idea: skip the questionable ingredients and opt for one of the better chewing gum options available on ThriveMarket.com

The History of The Pur Company

The Pur Company’s founder, Jay Klein, was always an entrepreneur at heart. Klein got his start as a teenager selling candy out of his backpack, and frequently heard friends and peers complain about chemical sweeteners in their chewing gum. In 2010, Klein founded his company to create a brand that was accessible to all, especially in today’s health-conscious climate when so many people have dietary restrictions to accommodate.

The Pur Company Mission

The Pur Company focuses on making gum for everyone. The brand’s simple substitutions (like using low-glycemic xylitol instead of high-fructose corn syrup) help hold the gum industry to higher standards and show it’s possible to create a better-for-you option without compromising on flavor.

Benefits of The Pur Company

Pur’s gums are vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, and peanut-free so they’re within reach for (almost) everyone. Each chew is naturally sweetened with xylitol, a naturally occurring alcohol found in most plants that also happens to be one of the lowest sweeteners on the glycemic index, too. Every bag is made in Switzerland using non-GMO ingredients sourced from throughout Europe.
