Humanity’s annual plastic waste is nearly the same as the weight of our entire population. Since the launch of Repurpose, a compostable paper goods company, more than 3.5 million pounds of waste has been kept out of landfills - and counting. That’s up to 80% fewer CO2 emissions, 65% less energy, and up to 60% less waste.

The History of Repurpose

Founder Lauren Gropper worked in Los Angeles, helping to build green skyscrapers - like the Bank of America Building. She made them sustainable, and then disappointedly watched them fill up with disposable plastic.

After being recruited to work in Hollywood as a sustainability consultant and witnessing firsthand the amount of disposable plastic these sets were going through, she’d had enough and took the leap to entrepreneurship.

With the help of a small, but talented team, Repurpose is providing plant-based, compostable and reusable alternatives to plastic pollution nationwide.

Repurpose Company Mission

Repurpose has a clear mission to reduce single-use plastic. Addressing the problem of plastic waste, and providing an alternative, is creating a way to combat climate change on a day-to-day basis.

The company's goal is to turn the wasteful, everyday items like disposable paper and plastic, as well as trash bags and cups, to something more purposeful. Its primary tools are plant-based bioplastics, upcycled materials, and effective design.

Benefits of Repurpose

Repurpose uses the newest green technology to provide the best possible products.

With its constant innovation, Repurpose is always working to provide sustainable options at the most affordable prices. Its plant-based products are made to effectively break down, as opposed to petroleum-based traditional plastic that never fully disappears. It both pollutes our bodies and the delicate planet with microplastics.

Repurpose’s products are made with fibers such as corn, beets, wood pulp, cassava, or bamboo.

Beyond the incredibly useful and sustainable Repurpose products, here are some related ways to keep the planet protected from waste.

New Solutions to Imperfect Produce

Have you ever heard of upcycling? It is the process that repurposes items traditionally seen as waste. With a little creativity, there are endless ways to upcycle. They can vary from using older produce to make something else (banana bread, anyone?) or utilizing waste as materials for crafts (one man’s trash is another kid’s treasure!).

Celebrating Women Entrepreneurs

Just like Repurpose founder Lauren Gropper, women are taking on the mission to make healthy living easy and affordable for everyone. A wide range of products have been introduced from these female-founded companies. Read more about their advice, favorite products, and driving forces here.
