Why You’ll Love Organic Lavender Essential Oil
Thrive Market Organic Lavender Oil (1.69 fl oz/50ml)
Essential oils are distilled only from the flowers of the lavender plant, harnessing the most potent and pure aromas from the petals. Often employed as a scent for soaps, lotions, and cosmetics, it is instantly recognized by its alluring earthy scent with a subtly spicy undertone. Today it is widely used for homeopathic remedies and aromatherapy.
Thrive Market’s essential oils are crafted from the highest quality ingredients to produce top of the line oils. Our specially selected botanicals are harvested, sorted, and then gently extracted using either steam distillation or cold expression to reduce deterioration of the aromatic compounds. The result—a premium essential oil with the truest expression of the plant that can be used in a multitude of ways.
Thrive Market prides itself on offering a thoughtfully curated selection of wholesome products, from our top-tier health food items to our bath and beauty goods. Our certified organic, non-GMO essential oils fit right into our mission to make healthy living easy and affordable for everyone.
How it’s made
Thrive Market’s Organic Lavender Oil is created using steam distillation, a process that uses vapor to extract aromatic compounds. The flowers from the lavender plant are harvested and put into a large vessel that is then filled with steam. The water vapor then carries small amounts of the vaporized compounds into another vessel where it cools, causing the water and essential oils to separate, and allowing them to be collected. This gentle process avoids using high heat, which means that the oils made this way have better-preserved aromas and are of the highest caliber.
A little about lavender
Lavandula angustifolia, known more commonly as “True” Lavender, is a highly aromatic evergreen plant indigenous to the Mediterranean region (primarily the Pyrenees and other mountains in Northern Spain). Today, lavender is cultivated all over the world, mainly in France and Spain, but as far and wide as Australia and Tasmania. Highly recognizable by its beautiful violet-blue flowers on spiked foliage, its aroma is sweet with a hint of spice.
Using lavender around the homeLavender is often used for aromatherapy and as a cleaning and housekeeping agent. The simplest use is to take a drop of oil and rub it between the palms of the hands and inhaling the fragrance —it is said to provide instant stress relief. For other ways to use it, see the following below:
- Aromatherapy: Use 5-10 drops of oil per one cup of water either in a spray bottle, or in a diffuser. Lavender is wonderful as a solo scent, but you can also experiment with blending this extremely versatile oil.
- Surface cleaner: Mixing vinegar and water with lavender, tea tree, and lemon oils can yield an environmentally friendly, aromatic all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Linen spray: Combine 8-10 drops with witch hazel or water in a spray bottle to spritz over sheets and towels to keep them smelling fresh!
- Laundry sheet: Add a few drops of lavender onto a clean rag and use it as your own DIY laundry sheet—just toss it into the dryer and dry as normal!
Caring for your essential oil
Make sure to store your essential oils in a cool, dark place and avoid extreme changes in temperature to ensure the longest life for your collection. Essential oils do not turn rancid like vegetable oil, but they will degrade gradually into a state where the therapeutic properties become diminished. If you have a particularly large bottle of oil, you may want to decant it into smaller bottles to protect one bottle from oxidization for longer periods. You can expect this oil to remain in good condition for four years and even longer when cared for properly!
