Why You’ll Love Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil
The exotic Australian Tea Tree is the source of one of the most useful essential oils in the world, embraced for its powerful antifungal and antiseptic properties. With a long history among the indigenous people of Eastern Australia, this oil has also gained popularity in the rest of the world for its ability to fight off different types of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Tea tree oil has many uses and has become an increasingly ubiquitous ingredient in shampoo, face wash, and detergents. With an unmistakably pungent, balsamic, and bittersweet aroma, it also blends well with a variety of other essential oils for diffusing.
Thrive Market’s essential oils are crafted from the highest quality ingredients to produce top of the line oils. Our specially selected botanicals are harvested, sorted, and then gently extracted using either steam distillation or cold expression to reduce deterioration of the aromatic compounds. The result—a premium essential oil with the truest expression of the plant that can be used in a multitude of ways.
Thrive Market prides itself on offering a thoughtfully curated selection of wholesome products, from our top-tier health food items to our bath and beauty goods. Our certified organic, non-GMO essential oils fit right into our mission to make healthy living easy and affordable for everyone.
How it’s made
Thrive Market’s Organic Tea Tree Oil is created using steam distillation, a process that uses vapor to extract aromatic compounds. Leaves and twigs from the tea tree are harvested and put into a large vessel that is then filled with steam. The water vapor then carries small amounts of the vaporized compounds into another vessel where it cools, causing the water and essential oils to separate, and allowing them to be collected. This gentle process avoids using high heat, which means that the oils made this way have better-preserved aromas and are of the highest caliber.
A little about tea tree
Melaleuca alternifolia, more commonly known as the tea tree, is a plant species with needles and a wide, white trunk with a delicate bark that is native to Australia. The strong, camphorous oil from this tree has been used by indigenous people in Eastern Australia for ages.Today, tea tree oil is cultivated almost exclusively in Australia, and is used as a natural remedy for a multitude of issues. Essential oils are distilled from both the leaves and twigs of the tree, harnessing only the most potent and pure aromas of the plant.
Using tea tree oil around the home
Outside of medicinal use, tea tree is often used for aromatherapy and as a cleaning and housekeeping agent. The simplest use is to place a few drops in the hands, place over nose, and inhale deeply to invigorate and promote immunity. For other ways to use it, see the following below:
- Aromatherapy: In a spray bottle or diffuser, use 5-10 drops of oil per one cup of water, as diffusing tea tree oil could aid in killing mold and other bad bacteria in your home. You can also experiment with blending this oil with citronella, lemongrass, and rosemary oils.
- Surface cleaner: Mixing vinegar and water with tea tree and lemon oils can yield an environmentally friendly, aromatic all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Antimicrobial laundry freshener: Add a few drops of tea tree onto a clean rag and use it as your own DIY laundry sheet - just toss it into the dryer and dry as normal!
Caring for your essential oil
Make sure to store your essential oils in a cool, dark place and avoid extreme changes in temperature to ensure the longest life for your collection. Essential oils do not turn rancid like vegetable oil, but they will degrade gradually into a state where the therapeutic properties become diminished. If you have a particularly large bottle of oil, you may want to decant it into smaller bottles to protect one bottle from oxidization for longer periods. You can expect this oil to remain in good condition for four years and even longer when cared for properly!
