When someone is diagnosed with a food allergy, it means exposure to a certain food triggers a negative response in their immune system, where the immune system starts attacking proteins in the food that are harmless for most people. Symptoms can range from totally mild (like a few hives) to potentially life threatening, which is why it’s essential for those affected to be extra vigilant when it comes to what they eat. Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) reports that 32 million Americans have food allergies, including 5.6 million children under age 18. It used to be far more difficult to find packaged foods that were safe for those with allergies, but brands like free2b (among many stellar options on ThriveMarket.com) are making it easier for everyone to enjoy their favorite foods safely, with delicious twists that some might argue are actually better than the original.

The History of free2b

In 2008, chocolatier David Lurie of Seth Ellis Chocolates was approached by a customer who’s son had a peanut allergy. The father wanted to know if it was possible to make a peanut butter cup using sunflower seed butter instead, and Lurie accepted the challenge. It didn’t take long for the first Sun Cups chocolate recipe to be perfected, and free2b was officially started shortly afterwards.
