How Your Membership Helped Us Give Back In 2018

Last Update: September 27, 2022

At Thrive Market, we’re filled with the spirit of giving all year long—and it always starts with you. That’s because your paid membership enables us to give away a free membership to a student, teacher, veteran, or low-income family in need. On the social impact front, your generosity helped us support initiatives ranging from local food drives to disaster relief efforts. Watch the video to hear our co-founder Nick Green and members of our Mission Task Force share how you helped make a difference in 2018.

2018 Thrive Gives Initiatives

The Thrive Gives team was busier than ever this year. Here’s a look back at some of the organizations we supported with volunteer time, food donations, and free memberships.

Baby2Baby

Baby2Baby Volunteer Day

Over the summer, Thrive Market staffers arrived at Baby2Baby’s LA headquarters to pack new baby bundles (complete with handwritten notes), sort clothing donations, and fill boxes with pantry staples like marinara sauce, tuna, and more. This event followed a donation of 65,000 diapers and wipes.

Teach for America

Teach For America

We partnered with the Los Angeles branch of Teach for America to send teachers back to school fueled with snacks and free memberships for the healthiest year yet.

Hurricane Relief

To support the recovery efforts of Hurricane Michael (Florida) and Hurricane Florence (North Carolina), members donated their savings at checkout for a total of $32,000. In partnership with Feeding America, we donated healthy food, hygiene products, and supplies to food banks in affected areas.

Food Bank For New York City

Food Bank for New York City

The Food Bank for New York City has been addressing hunger in the Big Apple for 35 years, and this November we signed on to help with its annual fundraiser, “Checkout Hunger.” Thrive Market members donated a total of $35,000 at checkout to provide meals to those in need.

California Wildfires

We mobilized to help those affected by the Woolsey and Camp fires in California, and have donated $74,000 in grocery credits and supplies to the victims.

Big Sunday Thanksgiving Food Drive

On the day before Thanksgiving, Thrive Market staff members and their families packed bags of healthy meal ingredients to distribute to more than 80 Los Angeles nonprofits. The items were ultimately delivered to 3,300 low-income families to provide a nutritious holiday meal.
