According to Feeding America, one in six American children may not know where their next meal is coming from, which turns a summer of fun into a summer of strain for many low-income families. That’s why we set out to make this season the healthiest one yet! From health education to free memberships, we partnered with organizations across the country and couldn’t have done this without you! Here’s a look back at some of our “Healthy Summer” highlights:
In July, a bus filled with 50 Thrive Market staffers arrived at Baby2Baby’s headquarters to pack new baby bundles (complete with handwritten notes!), sort clothing donations, and fill boxes with pantry staples like marinara sauce, tuna, and more. This event followed a donation of 65,000 diapers and wipes earlier in the summer.
We sent teachers back to school fueled with snacks and free memberships for the healthiest year yet! In September we worked with the Los Angeles branch of Teach for America—which serves almost 700,000 kids annually—to support its mission of giving all children equal opportunities to learn.
From Los Angeles to Indiana, we helped students gain access to wholesome food, providing snacks, free memberships, order discounts, and nutrition education at sports camps, math camps, urban gardens, and more.
LA Kitchen works to transform the community through innovative programs that focus on minimizing food waste, employing underserved groups (like the formerly incarcerated and transitioning foster youth), and distributing healthy meals. Our first donation produced 225 meal kits (enough for 900 meals and 1,000 snacks), followed by another donation of 300 meal kits. On a recent volunteer day, staffers helped pack meals and deliver them to seniors!
Your donations at checkout help make this all possible, and we can’t thank you enough for your amazing support!
