Gaia Herbs New Online Tool Lets You See Exactly Where Your Food Comes From

Last Update: September 28, 2022

Today’s conscious shoppers often have one question on their minds: Where does my food come from? Gaia Herbs wanted to make the answer easy to find, and so Meet Your Herbs™ was born. It’s an interactive site that allows you to tour farms and trace every ingredient in your favorite products from seed to shelf.

“We are passionate about safety and efficacy,” says Gaia Herbs founder Ric Scalzo. “Meet Your Herbs™ is the proof of where your herbs come from, and how they are grown, harvested, extracted and validated for purity, integrity and potency.”

We gave the site a test drive to learn more about Golden Milk, a tasty powdered turmeric supplement made with dates and herbs. After typing in the product ID number (printed on the outside of the bottle) into Gaia’s search tool, it directs to a page filled with everything there is to know about cardamom seed, vanilla bean paste, and ashwagandha root. You can also follow the journey of turmeric root, a spice indigenous to Southeastern and Eastern Asia that has been used as a traditional medicine, coloring agent, and spice for thousands of years.

The tool also breaks down info on every Gaia product into the five main categories below. In that, you get more details about everything from sourcing to the science behind the item!

Seeds

By hovering over the seed icon, you learn that ingredients from this batch were grown in southern India. There’s even a slideshow with photos of the plant alongside harvest videos.

Farms

The farm isn’t named for this particular product (it’s protected under a proprietary partnership), but Gaia confirms ingredients were sourced by a validated partner—growers who uphold the same organic and cultivation methods Gaia uses on its own farms.

Harvest

The harvest type is listed as Certified Organic Grower (COG). Gaia treats the earth like a partner, and believes when you nourish the plants and the land, they bring vitality for all of us to enjoy. Although more than 6.5 million plants are cultivated during the growing season at Gaia Farm in North Carolina, the company also harvests plants from around the world.

Science

Gaia’s scientists begin validating each ingredient at the raw materials stage and run the gamut of tests to ensure standards are met for purity, integrity, and potency. One click on a green tab reveals key dates for bottling, as well as potential offenders each test looks out for (like yeast, lead, and E. Coli).
