Why You’ll Love Non-GMO Wild Pacific Sockeye Salmon
Imagine taking a boat out onto the pristine and icy waters of the Pacific Northwest, waves splashing up against the hull as nets and lines spread out in the ocean to catch some fresh salmon. That’s the feeling that will happen every time you open a can of Wild Planet Non-GMO Wild Pacific Sockeye Salmon, which is the closest you can get to freshly caught fish without venturing into the deep seas yourself.
Each skinless and boneless fillet is hand-packed and cooked just once to keep the nutritional potency and natural juices, which are rich with Omega-3 fish oils. Unlike some salmon choices, Wild Planet’s fish is never frozen; instead, their salmon is canned fresh upon catch, which provides a superior flavor and soft texture. Whether enjoyed alone, atop a tasty cracker, or with some dill and cucumbers, Wild Planet Wild Pacific Sockeye Salmon is a delicious and refreshing seafood option—no boat required.
The health benefits of salmon
Inside each Wild Planet can is wild sockeye salmon (also referred to as Oncorhynchus nerka) and sea salt—and that’s it. Without any preservatives or other additives, the nutritional values of the fish are kept intact, which has a number of positive health benefits.
Omega-3 fatty acids
Normally when people hear fats, it’s immediately associated with something bad for you. While that’s true of some fats, it’s not true of all. In fact, the body needs some amount to live and thrive. Avoiding the saturated and trans fats in lard, fatty beef, butter, cheese, and other dairy products will benefit your heart just as much as supplying your body with omega-3 fatty acids. These potent oils, often found in fish, help to lower triglyceride levels, which (if high) can contribute to overall body fat and increase the risk for heart disease. Wild Planet Wild Pacific Sockeye Salmon, however, is a great source of good-for-you fatty acids and is also free of harmful trans fats.
An immense amount of the human body is made up of protein—without it, people would not exist. Protein is found in hair, nails, bones, muscles, cartilage, blood, and even skin.
Aside from helping the body heal and build new tissues, protein is great for bone health, building muscle mass and strength, and lowering blood pressure (another win for salmon when it comes to heart health). Protein also provides a full and satisfied feeling after eating a good amount of it, as in Wild Planet’s salmon, which has 12 grams in each can. That means less cravings and less snacking between meals. Over the long run, this can contribute to better weight management.
The entire family of B vitamins is incredibly helpful to humans. They help the body to process foods (carbohydrates in particular) and convert it into usable energy, rather than being stored as fat. A deficiency of B vitamins, on the other hand, can develop into unwanted side effects of fatigue, shortness of breath, or even tingling in the fingers and toes from poor circulation. Every B vitamin is water-soluble, meaning the body is unable to store them and any excess is merely eliminated through normal bodily functions, so you can never have too much.
Just four ounces of salmon provides 236 percent of the daily recommended value for vitamin B12, 56 percent of B3, and 38 percent of B6. Vitamin B12 is vital to red blood cell formation, which lends a hand in wound healing support and healthy muscle growth. Additionally, B12 teams up with B6 and B9 to balance homocysteine, an amino acid that has been linked to heart disease in those who have elevated levels.
Wild Planet’s Wild Pacific Sockeye Salmon also has the benefits of being gluten-free, Paleo-friendly, and non-GMO Project Verified.
Cooking with Wild Planet Wild Sockeye Salmon
Adding more salmon to your diet is easy with dishes that bring out its natural flavor. Just swap in Wild Planet canned salmon for the roasted fillets listed in these recipes—and enjoy the same great flavor with half the work.
Looking for a spiced-up main course that is good for you, too? Try this amazing dish that contains a number of clean flavors, plus kelp noodles, which helps to avoid a number of unnecessary carbohydrates that would come from starchy noodles or rice. The heat of red curry mixed in with notes of coriander and cumin help to really bring the bowl to life. Adjust the taste with extra cilantro, lime, or basil garnish.
Find a delicious pairing of Middle Eastern tastes with this light, grain-free bowl. By using cauliflower rice, the recipe is both Paleo and gluten-free. The addition of olive oil provides some healthy fat while minerals from the natural salt allow for an unprocessed flavor enhancer. The cauliflower is also punched up with mushrooms and spinach and dashes of cumin, allspice, cinnamon, and black pepper.
Taco Tuesday gets a dose of weekend fun with this creative recipe that bests the taqueria. While a garlic-chile marinade heats things up, the refreshing mango-avocado salsa will cool down tastebuds and provide a sweet aftertaste. Top over fresh corn tortillas with a handful of red cabbage and you have yourself a full meal.
Oooh la la! The French classic gets a tasty update by subbing in salmon for tuna and topping with a green olive vinaigrette that ties it altogether. Whip it up in just 25 minutes!

DELICIOUS, AND YET EXPENSIVE, CHEAPER THAN 'RUBINSTEINS'
Delicious and a great price
Non-GMO Wild Pacific Sockeye Salmon
I love this product! It is extremely tasty and wonderful in salads!
This product is so delicious and healthy for the planet too.
Expensive but worth it.
This is absolutely the best canned salmon I have ever tasted. I buy it on a regular basis.
very good it was just a little small
I tried this brand and was so impressed by the quality and the flavor. They also carry the best quality Albacore Tuna. Several times I have found their smoked salmon in cans.
I have called the company and asked how I can get more smoked salmon, I even offered to demo it in groc. stores so people would ask for it.
I am not one to write reviews as my vocabulary is limited but this product is worth shouting about.
Non-GMO Wild Pacific Sockeye Salmon
Excellent taste and texture.

We love this salmon - they've pulled it from my local grocery stores for some reason, leaving us only with tuna and the pink salmon (which just isn't as great a salmon as sockeye) so I was very happy to find it here!
This is an absolutely excellent product! The highest quality salmon. It even looks good in the can. Tastes great, with no junk added. So easy. I gave some of the juice to my cat, who lapped it up.
Excellent source of protein and healthy fat
I love to put it on top of my salads for work. My kids will use it in pace of tun in their salad
Just love having my fish come to my house and not bring crap with it or in it!! Haha
Wild Planet Sockeye Salmon
I am surprised at how delicious this is. I usually only like canned salmon for patties. This was great right out of the can.
Top quality; great to have on hand for those special guests for whom tuna is too hoi palloi.
I make sure I always have some on hand.
We love this product for a quick lunch or great salmon cakes. I make sure there are always 2 cans in the house.
Too salty and had bone chards.
The salmon tasted very good in my salad. I'm making salmon cakes next.
Best taste canned salmon!
This is the best canned salmon I ever had! I always like fresh wild caught but is pretty close to that quality. I love it!
Wild caught salmon can
It is delicious, even better taste than regular store. Love it's taste and want to buy more later.
The best canned wild salmon I've had & delivered right to my door!
Wild planet sockeye salmon
A solid chunk of very tasty salmon. Keeping it stocked more than tuna for salads.
This tuna was very good and moist. I will buy it again, and again.
Made it so easy to make salmon cakes. It's already in my shopping cart for my next purchase.
Super Convenient and a great price
the salmon tastes delicious and is great to keep around for when i don't have any meals prepped. throw a can of this on top of a salad and it's delicious, filling, and really good for you.
Best Canned Salmon
So far this is the best canned salmon I've eaten. Really delicious and easy too. Just open the can. Unlike some other brands, it doesn't have skin and a bunch of bones. Made wonderful salmon croquettes. Will use again soon. My husband loved it too!
I have been using this salmon for years now but was purchasing it at Costco. Now I buy from Thrive and save any more money without leaving my house
Prefer my salmon cooked.
Being a fan of Wild Planet canned tuna, I decided to taste the sockeye salmon for a change. Although the texture was nice and flaky, the taste was too fishy for me. I could have added some lemon or mixed it with other ingredients to diffuse the fishiness. For now, I prefer my salmon cooked.

SO delicious! Even for a can!
I was just blown away by the taste of this salmon. I particularly impressed with the lack of bones in these cans--I didn't encounter a single bone in the 3 cans I ordered, which is simply unheard of with other canned fish (at least for me, maybe I'm getting the wrong brand?)
It was also really juicy and fresh-tasting--not overly watered down or too salty like other brands that I've tried.
And it's so convenient! The can is a perfect serving size for putting over my salad or heating in a pan for quick fish tacos. It also went great in the salmon chowder I made and I kept a lot of the juice for flavor. I thought it was a little pricey at first so I only bought one, but after trying it out, I can definitely say it's worth every penny, and I'm glad to support such an environmentally conscious company.

Good- Prefer Fresh Salmon Though
I bought this can so that I could take it to work and not have to refrigerate it. I did make a Salmon Salad Sandwich which was tasty but I prefer fresh fish. Theses cans are Non-GMO which might be the best part. I can also use them for green salads if I am with my kosher friends.
I honestly am giving this 4 stars because I prefer fresh fish. There is a certain salt taste in canned fish that is not present in fresh. I would buy this again as it is good quality- just not my favorite.

Worth the extra cost!
Sockeye salmon is always going to be a pricier option, but it's worth it! This can is delicious and doesn't taste like it's from a can at all! I enjoy it plain but I've also had it on a salad and my favorite is on eggs benedict. If you're willing to pay a little more for canned fish, I definitely suggest giving this a try, you won't regret it!
I also don't have a problem paying for this because I am happy to support companies that use sustainable methods.
Like the Pink Salmon product, this is a moist and tender fillet that I prefer over tuna.
Sadly, I used to love tuna in canola oil (ich!), but in water, it's pretty bland.
Salmon is a naturally oily fish, and probably why I like it so much.
I eat a lot of canned fish, only wild caught and sustained fishing. Typically salmon, herring and sardines. Occasionally tuna; this is by far the best of all. Very tasty, rich flavor, nice pieces. For sure worth the higher price.
So delicious and easy to use!
I really like to keep things easy. This salmon is great because there is no hassle to cook, debone, and serve this salmon. It is in the can and it comes out easily and adds great flavor to any recipe. I love how simple it is to use and that it saves me a ton of cooking time for a few of my recipes.

Fresh Salmon Please
I really like my salmon better fresh. To me it is better in flavor and works better in more recipes than canned salmon does. I eat this because I like it better than tuna, but I would still rather have my salmon fresh. If I had to go canned, though, I would definitely add this to my cart.
Sockeye Salmon is chock full of omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin E, and so much more. When I found there was a canned version that was much like tuna, I wanted to try it. I really love it on my salads. And I'm not talking only green salads with veggies and dressing, but also potato and macaroni salad. It is high quality and always tastes fresh and delicious. This is a great brand!

Healthy and great on sandwiches
I eat salmon for the health benefits. But I love it for it's flavor. This brand in particular makes a great sandwich full of flavor that can be combined with any toppings because it tastes great with anything. I enjoy it on crackers with shredded cheese melted on top (or on bread/biscotti). It is organic which makes me feel even better about what I am eating and is also really great all on it's own. I have been caught eating it from the can a couple of times.
- Steven D. Whiley
My doctor told me that I need to eat more fish, so I figured since fish is kind of expensive I would opt for canned ones. This stuff is OK, if you like fish, which I don't really. It is something different to have though, this way I don't have to always eat tuna.
The taste is alright, and I usually eat it in lettuce wraps.
- Selene Hodel
Antioxidants, which are comprised of vitamins and minerals, fight toxins in the body and clean out the blood stream. In fact, many believe that these little heavyweights can kick cancer's butt too.
I eat salmon because it is filled with these little fighters and they make me feel good about my health. This is one of the best canned salmon I have had in a while.
- A. Bolen
Great source of Vitamin E
Sockeye salmon is a wonderful source of vitamin E, which is good for your skin, hair and nails. That should be reason enough to try this fish.
Wild Planet only sells great products and this canned fish is delicious. I love to use it for appetizers all the time, since it's great with crackers of all shapes and flavors.
- Marry Berry
Loved the taste of this. Tastes really fresh with almost a bit of a salty taste. It ends up tasting really refreshing and nice on the tongue. Very flavorful. Ends up being much cheaper here at Thrive than at my local health food store. I'm very happy about signing up.
Makes a great sandwich
Salmon sandwiches are a favorite meal of mine. I love this salmon and find it's great for taking with me to throw together a quick and healthy meal for lunch.
Omega 3 fatty acids are great for the body, so I am always happy to find a new source. Throw the salmon on a sandwich with some salad dressing and homemade relish and you have a tasty, quick meal.
Pretty good with potatoes and other "salads"
My wife purchased this wild salmon for us to try. It's tasty. I like it better mixed with something like potatoes, egg salad, mayo and onions. Can't eat straight, but that's just me.
They say sockeye salmon is the best of the five types of salmon and I agree. It has hardy flesh and a rich flavor. Too rich for me to eat as a stand-alone meal, but goes good with other foods.
- Sam Barrett
Really Close To Fresh
I like the taste a lot, and would give it a higher rating, but the cans I got on the last delivery were caved in like they'd been dropped or something. It made me a little nervous, so I only ate the least damaged ones and sent the others back.
As far as taste, this is as close to fresh salmon as you'll get. The flakes are packed with flavor, but not too fishy because I'm one of those people who likes fish but hate 'fish taste.' Great food, just hope those dented cans aren't going to happen again.
- diana F
I'm only working part time, so I can't really buy as many cans as I want, which is the only slight negative about this product. It's better than tuna, and has big chunks in every can. I eat it straight from the can, or sprinkle the salmon over a small salad for a healthy meal.
Love the fact that I'm not worrying about icky skin and bones in the flakes, and that Wild Pacific has a bit of a conscience when it comes to how they catch their fish. But I mostly love the taste, and wish the cans were more affordable!
- D. Ferro
As good as it gets!
I have to admit that I rarely do more than just eat this salmon right out of the can. I've got recipes for salmon cakes and salads, but it's just so much easier to just start eating right away.
And here's a secret, don't throw out the liquid. It's not water, but the juice from the salmon, which is packed with vitamins and Omega 3 oils. I pour the juice into a bowl and mix it back into the flakes. Great stuff!
- Don F.
Great Source of Omega 3
Lots of canned fish is chock full of Omega 3 oils, which are really healthy. I wasn't getting enough of that in my diet, so my doctor told me to eat more tuna and other fish. I'm kind of a picky eater and I wasn't keen on tuna, so I chose salmon instead.
I love Wild Pacific's 'green' philosophy, and their canned salmon is delicious. It's light, flaky and has big chunks. I'm getting my Omega 3, and I'm buying from a company that cares about how they get their fish. One other thing is that this doesn't have a big fishy taste, another plus. I eat it straight out the can most of the time!
- Donna Franklin
Really Good Salmon
Wild Planet's been part of our family for a few years. We've been digging the canned tuna, and thought the salmon might be equally good. And it is.
There salmon is boneless, and no skin is mixed into the flakes. The pieces are nice and thick and perfect for salmon cakes. My kids love eating salmon sandwiches with low-fat mustard and just a dollop of mayo.
- Daryl Frazier
Prefer my salmon fresh
I am not a fan of canned salmon, but sometimes it's easier to go with the canned option. This is a great brand, or for someone that is used to canned salmon I can bet you'd love it.
It definitely tastes like canned salmon. It's good, for what it is. Makes a great replacement for tuna in salads and sandwiches. Always tastes fresh.
I definitely prefer this brand when I have to go canned!
