For many mothers, balancing work with raising children poses a uniquely difficult challenge. Andrea knew that working for herself as a freelance graphic designer would allow her the freedom and flexibility to raise her young children while also pursuing her passion, so she decided to take a leap of faith and transition away from her full-time job to start her own graphic design business.

When we visited Andrea, her husband, Jamal, and their two sons, Jericho, age 3, and Jeremiah, age 6, at home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she told us how she applied for a Thrive Gives membership when she was first starting her business in order to best support her growing family’s needs. “It was really nice to have Thrive Gives because I was able to still give my kids the same snacks and lunches that they’ve always had, while still being able to grow my creativity and have my own business,” she explains.

Andrea and Jamal, often share the cooking duties in their home, and both parents are very focused on vetting the ingredients they use in their meals. The Thrive Market app makes it easy for Andrea to shop for healthy, organic groceries online rather than spending her free time navigating the grocery store — or Googling complicated ingredient lists. “[At Thrive Market], everything is already vetted,” she says. “I hate going to 10 grocery stores looking for good options for my kids, so it saves me an extra trip — and it saves me some money.”
