Celebrate B Corp Month With These Products from Thrive Market

Last Update: September 19, 2024

Becoming a B Corporation (or a “B Corp”) is one of the highest certifications a business can receive to back up their efforts toward environmental and social responsibility. B Corps are the leaders in their respective industries; the companies that walk the walk, so to speak, when it comes to ingredient transparency, ethical sourcing, and even certain legal commitments that make them more equitable to all involved (more on that later).

March is B Corp Month, and beyond that annual milestone, some are even predicting that 2023 will be the “year of the B Corp.” With a brighter future for business in mind, we’re exploring exactly what it means to be a B Corp and rounding up some of the best products from B Corps at Thrive Market.

What is a B Corp?

A B Corp is often thought of as a company that is focused on sustainability and environmental issues, and while that is a large part of it, it is certainly not the only component. According to B Lab (the nonprofit organization that certifies companies as B Corps), certified B Corps are “leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.”  The B Corp certification is unique in that it measures a company’s “entire social and environmental impact”—the first of its kind to combine these issues into one holistic certification.

To become a B Corp, companies must:

  • Adhere to the highest environmental and social performance standards, which are measured by the organization’s “B Impact Assessment”
  • Legally commit to “changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders”
  • Demonstrate transparency by making their performance publicly available and measured against B Lab’s standards on the B Corp website

B Corp Brand Roundup

One way to invest in a better future for people and the planet is to support B Corps with your dollars. At Thrive Market, we carry a number of brands who are B Corps—and best of all, we’re proud to be a B Corp ourselves.

Here are a few of our favorite B Corps across the food, home, beauty, and lifestyle categories, so you can choose to shop by your values while stocking up on all your essentials.

Weleda

Who they are: Weleda is a heritage beauty and naturopathic medicine brand that was founded in Switzerland in 1921. Today, the brand is known for its cult favorite body creams and personal care products, and it’s a certified B Corp thanks to its environmental and social commitments.

Product to try: Weleda Skin Food Original Ultra-Rich Cream
This mainstay hand and body cream has hundreds of positive reviews for a reason: with essential fatty acids, vitamin E, and organic sunflower oil, it provides rich, nourishing hydration to all skin types, all over the body.

Seventh Generation

Who they are: Seventh Generation is a home cleaning and care brand that is committed to using bio-based, natural ingredients in their products. The brand is a certified B Corp thanks to their dedication to climate justice, reducing plastic waste, and ingredient transparency.

wellmade by Thrive Market

Who they are: We developed wellmade to offer vitamins and supplements made up of only pure, potent, and effective ingredients you can trust. And because we’re also a B Corp, like all Thrive Market products, our wellmade products are developed according to strict environmental and sourcing standards.

Product to try: wellmade Liquid Chlorophyll
This non-GMO chlorophyll is sourced from mulberry leaves, and it contains no other flavors, additives, or alcohol.

EthicDrinks

Who they are: French winemaking is typically thought of as historic and traditional, though a bit behind the times when it comes to sustainability. But not EthicDrinks; this French wine company was founded by the grandson of a Burgundian winegrower and the son of an environmental activist, and their B Corp status proves that the brand perfectly marries the two schools of thought.

Product to try: EthicDrinks Cotes du Provence Rosé 2020
This light, crisp rosé is made up of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Rolle grapes, but it’s also sustainably farmed and pesticide-free.
