Why You’ll Love It

Discover the whole grain goodness of amaranth. This tiny “grain”—actually a seed—has a rich history dating back 8,000 years, when it was first cultivated in Mesoamerica. The ancient Aztecs relied on amaranth as a food staple and used it in religious rituals, earning it the names “super grain of the Aztecs” and “golden grain of the gods.” In the 1500s, Spanish conquistadors attempted to outlaw amaranth in an effort to convert and control the Aztecs. Lucky for us, their efforts proved unsuccessful due to amaranth’s amazing ability to grow quickly and thrive in less-than-ideal soil, making it nearly impossible to extinguish. Our Organic Amaranth Flour is 100% stone ground and gluten free. It can be used to replace 25% of the flour in your own recipes and is great for gluten free baking when combined with another non-grain flour or starch. Amaranth is a gluten-free food and a source of complete protein—it contains all the essential amino acids, including lysine, which is lacking in most...

Reviews For Organic Amaranth Flour

Based on 5 Reviews

Perfect substitute

You can't use this flour as a standalone, but as the directions say, you can use it in place of any other flour up to a 1/4 cup. It's a great, healthy flour that doesn't really add its own flavor to your food, so you don't have to worry about overwhelming your baking.

Strong Flavor

I enjoy using this flour, and I love that it's organic, but you definitely have to understand that it has a much stronger taste than most other flours. Not everyone gets a taste for this one, but I really do enjoy it. It has a lot of whole grains in it, and with some delicious dishes with strong flavoring, I honestly can't taste the difference in taste. For those who want a good grain that's a bit outside the average, this one is a good one.

Good Base

This flour is a good base to going GF, but because it can only replace a quarter of the regular flour in a recipe, it isn't the full deal. (it can however be mixed with other GF flours) It has a very distinct taste. I tried this with biscuits and will likely never do that again, but it mixed well and tasted great in banana bread. It is a good base to gong GF, I just prefer flours that I don't have to mix and match to bake/cook.

Tasteful introduction to gluten free baking

As with most of the world, I wanted to feel better, less "foggy" and bloated. I decided to go gluten free, but with so many different products out there, I didn't know where to begin.

Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grain Amaranth Flour is an awesome way to gently start the GF process. Making and baking was never easy, but this has been a really easy substitute. And you can't beat Thrive's prices!

Very good but needs to be paired with other flavors

Amaranth flour has a very earthy and nutty flavor. The flavor is stronger than many other whole grains. It pairs nicely with other assertive flavors but may be too much on its own.
