Uses for Hydrogen Peroxide in Every Room of Your Home

Sure, we all know how it disinfects (and stings!) cuts and scrapes. But that’s barely even scratching the surface of what this miracle-in-a-bottle is capable of. Here’s why we’re stashing a bottle of non-toxic, super versatile hydrogen peroxide in every room of the house.

In the Kitchen

Cleans tile surfaces and disinfects countertops:

Spray directly onto surface to remove dirt, stains, germs, and bacteria.

Disinfects dishrags and sponges:

Instead of tossing them, drop dirty rags and cleaning sponges into diluted hydrogen peroxide, and let them soak for 15 to 30 minutes.

Washes fruits and vegetables:

Spray produce and let soak for a minute or two before rinsing in clean water to remove dirt and contaminants.

Cleans and disinfects wooden cutting boards:

Spray on cutting boards to kill germs and bacteria from raw meat and other foods that may have soaked into its porous surface.

In the Bathroom

Removes tub scum:

Spray then let it sit for at least 30 minutes. After that, rinse to loosen grime to make cleaning easier.

Whitens grout:

Mix with baking soda to create a thick paste, and apply to grout. Cover with plastic wrap overnight, then rinse the next day. For even better results, douse the area with baking soda and scrub.

Cleans toilet bowls:

Pour about half a cup and let it soak for at least 30 minutes.

Disinfects toothbrushes:

Cleans Mirrors:

Spray onto glass surfaces, then wipe away with a clean, lint-free cloth.

In the Laundry Room

Whitens and brightens laundry (and banishes poisonous bleach forever):

Just mix 1 ½ cups hydrogen peroxide, ½ cup lemon juice, and distilled water to fill a gallon jug. Use this solution in place of regular bleach in the laundry or as a general cleaner.

Removes stains:

Mix two parts hydrogen peroxide with one part dish detergent and apply to stains like coffee, wine, blood, and sweat.

Gets the mustiness out of fabrics:

Mix with white vinegar and soak musty fabrics to remove unwanted odors.

Freshens up reusable, cloth shopping bags:

Removes food odors and refreshes bags so you can reuse them over and over again without stinking up the house.

In the Living Room

Cleans rugs and carpets:

Spray hydrogen peroxide onto light-colored carpets and rugs to remove stains from mud and food. Make sure to test it in a small, inconspicuous area of the rug first to make sure it won’t bleach or ruin the rug.

Cleans and clears humidifiers:

Add a pint of hydrogen peroxide to one gallon of water and run the solution through humidifiers to disinfect and remove any mold or mildew. It will ensure a longer life for the humidifier and cleaner air for you.

Removes pet urine stains and odors:

Combine 12 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, ½ teaspoon of natural dish soap, and 1 ½ teaspoons of baking soda. Using a spray bottle, spritz the solution liberally to the stain and allow to air-dry completely. Vacuum up any remaining residue.
