The health benefits of chia seeds
Chia seeds are seen more and more in foods and drinks lately, but every wonder why this is the case? Though they may be small in size, these seeds actually offer powerful benefits for health, affecting physical nutrition, mental performance, and proper digestion in various ways. Here are just a few examples:
- Promotes mental health: Here’s something worth thinking about: The omega-3 fatty acids present in chia seeds are one of the main factors in increasing the levels of protein needed for the brain to function at its best by improving memory and assisting in the capacities to learn and retain information.
- Keeps hypertension in check: High blood pressure is a circulatory problem that can sneak up on you and lead to health problems down the road. Fortunately, foods like chia seeds have been shown to lower blood pressure when eaten frequently as part of a proper diet and regular exercise routine. Even individuals that aren’t on medication for blood pressure have observed lower hypertension rates when chia seeds are included in the diet.
- Supports heart health: Chia seeds are an incredible source of fiber. This special dietary nutrient lends a hand in improving health in multiple ways. Fiber is crucial for digestive health, regulating the bowels and providing a feeling of fullness that cuts down on snacking between meals. Fiber has also been known to lower cholesterol levels (which can reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems and heart disease) and helps to regulate blood sugar levels, making it a valuable tool for controlling or even preventing diabetes. Since fiber can also act as an anti-inflammatory agent, it’s also widely believed to help prevent strokes and heart attacks.
Mamma Chia Organic Black Chia Seeds can benefit a healthy lifestyle in countless ways, full of nutrients the body needs like protein, calcium, and iron. Their small size and subtle taste also makes them an easy ingredient to seamlessly add in other favorite foods.
Cooking with chia seeds
Whether they’re used as a salad topping or as a main ingredient, chia seeds have the ability to enhance a meal with distinct flavor, great texture, and healthy nourishment. Here are a few of Thrive Market’s favorite ideas for getting acquainted with this incredible food.
This drink tastes so good, even your kids won’t know how healthy it really is! Inside is a good dose of “hidden” ingredients including spinach, hemp seeds, and chia seeds—all masked by the dark purple color of blueberries and the sweetness of coconut water, banana, and Medjool dates. Ready in only five minutes, it’s a quick and easy way to turbocharge any morning.
Dessert can be raw and sugar-free and still taste heavenly. In this recipe, whipped chocolate mousse is made from cacao powder, cashew butter, almond milk, Medjool dates, vanilla extract, and chia seeds. Simply blend all ingredients together until creamy and then scoop into bowls with some berries on top for added presentation and taste.
This classic cookie recipe gets a healthy makeover with tons of nutrient-dense ingredients and plenty of great taste. Chia seeds, raw honey, and fruit are used to make the berry jam while the cookies are created from a dough of almonds, coconut oil, gluten-free rolled oats, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Going sugar-free has never been so easy—or had so much flavor!
Chia seeds really shine in pudding recipes. When soaked in liquids like almond milk, they expand and become soft, not unlike tapioca. For extra flavor and nutrition, this recipe also combines green tea matcha powder, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. After pouring the mixture over chia seeds, let sit in the fridge for about 15 minutes and then serve with fresh raspberries and hemp seeds on top.
There’s no need to settle for ordinary nut butters when you can make a homemade version with a flavor explosion. This recipe is both sweet and savory (and super healthy) with a mix of chia seeds, raw almonds, flaxseeds, hemp seeds, maple syrup, coconut oil, cinnamon, and sea salt. Puree together and you’ll have a tasty spread that’s great on toast, crackers, and just about anything else you can think of.

I love chia seed! These have great flavor. I normally let them sit in a bowl of water until it gets gel like then eat it right up.
Use them daily in my smoothie ;-)

Quality seeds. They gel nicely when soaked.
So many ways to enjoy this superfood. I mostly just add it to water but I plan on trying chia pudding
The price is right and it makes my morning drink a lot more interesting

Makes filling smoothies
I give these little gems a quick buzz and let them soak in water for about 3-5 minutes before I make my dairy-free morning smoothie. I stay full until lunch and don't want to snack on sweet or salty things in the meantime. Works for me!
We are New to Yum!
Our family has not been chia consumers! However, we've started out trying this brand (the black seeds and the white seeds.) We are consuming them dry mixed in to yummy recipes (like from Wellness Mama). It is wonderful that they are organic, and a happy price here on Thrive. Thanks! Even my pickiest young one will eat them happily.
I use this in my smoothie almost every morning. A great product.
In love with this product and you can't best the price. This is now a staple in our home.
I had a Chia Pet as a kid (Bart Simpson, if you must know) so when I started hearing hype about Chia seeds, I was a bit confused. How could those little seeds be good for me?
Turns out, REALLY good for me! I've started adding these to my lunch break shake every day, and I can tell just after two weeks that my fiber intake is much better. They also have a lot of protein, and I'm finding that my shake is more satisfying than before! I'd recommend these to anyone looking to add a little "oomph" to their diet!

Amazing little seeds!
I love chia seeds; I put them in my food whenever I can, which is pretty often because they are super versatile. I mostly use them in my shakes, but I'll put some in my water just for an added boost (sidenote: cold water and chia seeds are the #1 absolute best hangover cure I've ever used to date!). But you can add them to granola, rice krispies, chocolate bark, other beverages. Ground up or blended they make a great pudding if you add a milk of your choice. These are organic and full of omegas. I stock up here because it's upwards of 7 bucks a bag elsewhere for the same quantity.

Good Quality Seeds
These plump up nicely in milk!
I love the Mamma Chia juice beverages and couldn't wait to buy the chia seeds on their own. This pouch is a great value and the seeds are so versatile. Highly recommended!
