Why You’ll Love Simply Beyond Black Bean Corn Tortilla Chips
Black beans are no longer the black sheep of the bean family, not with all the wonderful ways they can make it proud. They taste just as great whole or refried in burritos, as part of Latin American rice dishes, mashed up into a vegetarian burger patty, or even the surprise ingredient in wholesome brownies. Way Better Snacks also found out how great they taste as a healthy chip.
Their Simply Beyond Black Bean Tortilla Chips offer a smarter way to snack with a product that is gluten-free, non-GMO, and certified organic—and also free of the trans fats lurking in regular potato chips. Instead, each bag is packed with nutrients like sprouted black beans, flax, and quinoa that actually reward your body every time you give in to your cravings.
What are sprouted ingredients?
If you remember growing small plants out of beans in elementary school, that’s basically sprouting. The process typically starts with seeds, legumes, or grains that are soaked to wash away dirt and increase water volume, which helps to break the outer shell. Then, they are kept moist for a few days to encourage growth of the sprout.
Once that happens (which will be visible with a tiny tail that pops out of the seed), the starches inside start to break down and release all types of nutrients including proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Sprouting boosts the nutritional content of seeds, grains, and beans while also making them more digestible for the body.
Black bean nutrition
In each one ounce serving of these black bean tortilla chips, there are 130 calories (and only 60 calories coming from fat, none of which are trans fats). Because the chips are unsalted, there’s also just 80 milligrams of sodium and two grams of protein in each serving size.
As well as being low-calorie and low in sodium, Way Better Snacks black bean tortilla chips are also nutrient-rich. Here are just some of the ways you will treat your body each time you eat them:
Healthy bones: Black beans contain iron, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, and zinc, all minerals your bones need for maintenance and growth. Nearly all of the calcium supply and 80 percent of phosphorous stores are in the bones, so it is essential to take in a regular dose.
Lower blood pressure: Low-sodium snacks like Way Better’s tortilla chips help to keep blood pressure down. The potassium, calcium, and magnesium in black beans all help in this department, too.
Better-managed diabetes: Research has proven that both type 1 and type 2 diabetics who consume high amounts of fiber will have reduced glucose levels. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggests that women consume 21 to 25 grams and men consume 30 to 38 grams of fiber every day. Black beans are a good start. These chips have three grams of dietary fiber (or 12% of the recommended daily value) in each serving.
Heart health: The fiber in black beans (along with folate and vitamin B6) also contributes to preventing heart disease. Black beans are low in cholesterol, too, which supports a strong heart.
Cancer prevention: Selenium is an important mineral lacking in most fruits and vegetables, but prominent in black beans. It helps the liver and enzymes function at their best, which in turn detoxifies many cancer-causing components throughout the body. Selenium also lowers inflammation and slows the growth rate of tumors.
Better digestion: All the protein and fiber in black beans gives your digestive system a boost and helps move food through the body. Because black beans also take a while to digest, it allows for a more steady stream of fresh protein and fiber that your body can use over time.
Prenatal care: Black beans are rich in folate, a common compound used to strengthen the structure of the womb during pregnancy. It is also a major component of brain and spinal development, making it an important part of diet during pregnancy.
Sneak more veggies into a child's diet
It can be a real chore to get kids to eat their vegetables, but it never seems to be problem to get them interested in chips. Way Better Snacks Black Bean Tortilla Chips provides an easy solution to that problem by hiding all the good stuff inside one of kids’ favorite snack foods.
Black bean tortilla chips taste just as good and have a similar crunch to regular potato chips, so kids won’t even know the difference—but you will! Low in sodium and fat, and packed with fiber and protein, these tortilla chips will give your kids all the proper nutrients they need for development every time they open up a bag. Turn it into a great afterschool snack or pack into a school lunch.
Dips for black bean tortilla chips
While they make a great snack by themselves, black bean tortilla chips also have a very subtle flavor that pairs well with dips and salsas. Here are a few ideas you can make at home for just yourself or to spice up a party:
Hummus lovers, bookmark this recipe. It provides an alternative to traditional chickpeas that tastes just as good; some might say even better. Simply soak almonds overnight and then puree with olive oil, tahini, garlic, lemons, and fresh sage. The combo gives this hummus loads of original flavor.
For a spicy dip that complements the undertones in Way Better chips, try this recipe. It’s inspired by muhammara, a traditional Syrian delicacy that combines red bell peppers, walnuts, tomato, garlic, and other zesty ingredients.
Way Better Snacks are tortilla chips after all, so what better to pair them with than traditional salsa? Except this is no regular salsa. Slow-roasted tomatoes add a new depth of flavor to the mix and the garlic, shallots, parsley, and red pepper flakes make it even more tangy.

The yummyist wholesome chip
Great taste, crispy and full of healthy ingredients. Love them!
I'm so glad I gave these a try! I really like black bean hummus and wanted to eat these with them but they didnt last long enough for me to make it to the store lol. You can taste just enough of the earthiness of the chip
Sooo good... perfect for dipping!
I eat these with guacamole or avocado verde more often than I care to admit. They are nice and strong for dipping, great crunch, perfect amount of salt... I highly recommend these chips!!!
yummy black bean chips
these black bean chips are so yummy and don't feel so much like I am cheating when I snack on these!
These are great tasting and the kids love them!
Crunchy and Guilt Free
I was a little nervous to try these, but they are great! They go great with salsa, cheese, guac and hummus! Highly recommend!
A bit bland and not salty enough but good enough to get your gluten free crunch on.
We really like these chips, but was surprised at how small the bag was.
These are a good chip, would be great with a cheese dip or salsa, but still good just plain. Mild black bean flavor, so if you don't like beans, these probably aren't for you.
These chips are nice, because they're a nice substitute for greasy, fat-laden tortilla chips which are processed and full of chemicals. These are sprouted and taste as if you'd dipped them in beans each time you bite down. It's healthy, lower in fat and virtually guilt-free. But I try to eat them in moderation, or my bag won't last for more than a day or two.
There's a different feeling you get when you eat chips that are really good for you and really good, and that's what these black bean chips are. There's a real bean flavor in every bite, and it's filling enough that I don't even need a dip or anything else to feel satisfied after a handful. But they go well with dip too, so don't worry, you can enjoy them either way.
These are great, not greasy, not salty but truly black bean flavor. Hearty and easy to dip without breaking.
My favorite brand
This brand of chips is my favorite healthy or not. They taste amazing!
They taste really fresh and crunchy
They come packed with healthy natural ingredients. They go really well with salsa, dips, avocado or alone. They taste really fresh and crunchy. Very easy to digest too.

Tastes good and non-gmo!
These are without any doubt the best "healthy" chips I have tried. I wish they came in bigger bags though!
- Raymond Powell
Really are way better...
Really tasty chips. Even my husband enjoys them, and he's not the "health food type". These are made with sprouted grains, so they're packed with vitamins, but they just take like really good tortilla chips. We enjoy them with salsa or guacamole, or just right out of the bag!
