Why You’ll Love Organic Roasted Seaweed Grab & Go - Classic

What lives under the sea? Incredible creatures, plant life, and superfoods of course. Seaweed is one of the best you can find lurking underwater. Ripe with vitamins and fiber, it’s also a rich source of hard-to-get iodine. But it’s not like everyone can just get to the ocean at lunchtime. Instead, SeaSnax has created a convenient (and tasty) grab-and-go version that has only 25 calories per serving and is also low-carb, making it a healthful alternative to chips and crackers.

Each crispy sheet is made from sustainably grown organic seaweed, touched with organic extra virgin olive oil and just a pinch of sea salt—and always sans artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, and genetically-modified ingredients. In fact, SeaSnax was the first company to ever create non-GMO certified roasted seaweed. Their snack is also vegan, Paleo-friendly, and gluten-free, making it a smart choice for any diet.

Enjoy this crispy seaweed straight out of the bag, wrapped around rice and veggies, or even crumbled over soups and salads. If you’re looking to cut down on carbohydrates, SeaSnax Roasted Seaweed also makes a great alternative for bread in sandwiches and wraps.

Origins of organic seaweed

SeaSnax uses two different kinds, one called porphyra, or red algae. And other is deep purple laver, which is also called nori in Japan and kim in Korea. Each type is sustainably harvested, roasted, and packaged in Korea to ensure the highest-quality ingredients and most authentic, fresh-from-the-sea flavor.

Seaweed health benefits

The best part is, you don’t have to eat seafood raw in order to reap the benefits. With every bite of SeaSnax, you’re also nourishing your body with the same nutrients including:

  • Vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin involved in immune function, cell communication, reproduction, and eye health. Because it supports normal functioning of the membranes around the eye and cornea, it’s critical to vision. It also plays a major role in the growth and regeneration of the heart, lung, kidney, and skin cells.
  • Vitamin C, which protects against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal complications, eye disease, and skin wrinkling.
  • Fiber, which lowers cholesterol and blood sugar levels, and helps maintain bowel health and digestion.
  • Protein, an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Protein is essential to making enzymes, hormones, and other important body chemicals.
  • Calcium, which plays a vital role in muscle contraction, transmitting messages through the nerves, and the release of hormones. If your diet doesn’t include enough calcium, your body will source it from your bones to ensure normal cell function, but the depletion can lead them to become weak and brittle.
  • Omega fatty acids, which perform many functions in the body, from building healthy cells to maintaining brain and nerve function. Since our bodies can’t naturally produce them, they must be acquired through foods like seaweed.
  • Iodine, a nutrient which aids in thyroid health.

The importance of iodine

Seaweed is perhaps most revered for its iodine content, a nutrient not produced by the body or found in sufficient amounts in most foods (hence why it’s often taken as a supplement). Iodine promotes a healthy thyroid—a gland in your neck that helps regulate hormones—which plays an important role in many critical bodily functions including protein synthesis and metabolism.

Because of its wide range of vital responsibilities in the human body, a malfunctioning thyroid can result in several unwanted symptoms including:

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle weakness
  • High cholesterol
  • Brain fog
  • Constipation
  • Weight gain

While SeaSnax seaweed sheets don’t offer 100 percent of the iodine your body needs for optimal thyroid health (one .18 oz. bag has 25 micrograms while the recommended daily amount is 150 mcg), it’s an easy (and delicious) way to incorporate a good amount of this hard-to-find nutrient at snack time. Especially with the family size 4-pack.

Health benefits of extra virgin olive oil

One of the three ingredients in SeaSnax is extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), which provides positive health benefits of its own. Not only is it certified non-GMO (unlike many corn or canola oils), it’s also loaded with flavor and nutrition. A staple of the much-touted Mediterranean Diet, EVOO boasts a slightly fruity and peppery taste that complements nearly every food under the sun, including seaweed. High in monounsaturated fats and packed with tons of disease-fighting phenols, it could help lower chances of:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Stroke
  • Inflammation
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Breast cancer
  • Ulcerative colitis

Again, while you’d need to consume a diet very rich in EVOO in order to reap the full health benefits, eating a nutrient-packed treat such as SeaSnax, which is roasted in the potent oil, is a great start.

Different ways to enjoy roasted seaweed snacks

Sure, rice and seaweed go together like PB&J, but that’s only one of the ways to enjoy this versatile plant. If you can resist the urge to nosh on SeaSnax roasted seaweed straight out of the bag, use them to add nutrition, crunch, color, and flavor to:

  • Salads
  • Soups
  • Veggie rolls
  • Steamed veggies
  • Baked fish
  • Omelets

And here’s a little unknown secret: Roasted seaweed makes the perfect low-cal, low-carb wrap for sandwiches. Wrap up turkey and cheese, or tuna and tomatoes, in sheets of seaweed to ditch the bread completely!

Everyone loves seaweed—even dogs!

Roasted seaweed makes the perfect crunchy snack for your four-legged friends, too. Dogs love the crunch and salty flavor, and you’ll love the nutrition it provides them. Not only is SeaSnax Roasted Seaweed a low-calorie treat that helps with a dog’s weight management, but it’s filled with nutrients thought to increase energy levels, enhance the immune system, support thyroid health, and darken coat and skin pigment. Some studies have even shown that seaweed may be helpful in reducing cancer in canines as the plant is thought to contain anti-tumor properties, as well as vitamins and minerals that may be beneficial after cancer treatment.

Keeping seaweed fresh

SeaSnax recommends storing your seaweed in a cool, dry place that’s out of direct sunlight. Once opened, re-seal the leftovers in a ziplock bag and store in the refrigerator or freezer to preserve freshness and flavor.

Great snack

These are great if your craving something crispy. I wish they came in smaller bits though - they are awkwardly large sheets.

- April

Yum

These are so good. Sometimes my body CRAVES it and I eat so fast. Watch out, crumbles ~ not ideal for car munchies necessarily.

- Shyama Blaise

Awesome

My 10 year old daughter loves these

- Christie Hebner

Fantastic snack!

Quite yummy and I will buy it again!

- Rachel

Yum!

Wish they sold bigger quantities

- Anna Ligas

Tasty and good value

My son gobbled 3 packages up in one sitting! A tasty way to get in sea veggies :)

- Cheryl

Great Snack

Love the taste and texture, very light and perfect for some late night snacking.

- Hélène

Olive oil !

These are a family favorite. I love that they are made with olive oil vs. canola (of which I'm not a fan).

- Elizabeth Bruer

Kids like it!

yummy treat that my kids enjoy eating by itself or with a little bit of sushi rice.

- Maricar

Perfect size

Reviewed family size of this product so will repeat that I like this brand's flavor even better than the soy sauce-flavored ones I usually get at my Asian food store. Olive oil makes it less fishy. The larger sheets can be cut with a pair of scissors or crumbled depending on use, but these are perfect for individual snacking. Grab and Go!

- Deborah Smith

nice crunch

I do like the texture of it. Hard to believe there is very little fat. But, my hand was very oily, so I'm not sure there was no saturated fat.

- Rimona

An acquired taste

The first time I ate this, I thought it was gross. But the more I ate them, the more I liked them. It's nice to find a snack that doesn't contain nightshades or hydrogenated oils but still has a lot of flavor.

- Lisa

loved it!!

what can I say....it's such a great snack. good to stock up on all the flavors because the price is just right. I must warn you though, get more than one pack to eat cause it's addicting.

- Ana

Delish!

Delicious!
I couldn't stop eating them, they're absolutely lovely.

- Jackie

Very Good!

I really liked these and knowing that they are good for you is even better! They really taste like the sea! You have to eat them all at once if you like the crunchiness because if you try to save some for later they get soggy!

- mrbsmom

Classic Healthy Snack

-Always ...I enjoy this snack choice.

- Joy A. Collura

sea weed snack

doesn`t last long enough very good

- Leah

Delicious

Love it!

- Joann Song

Guess I'm not a seaweed fan

I wanted to like this but it tastes too much like boiled spinach for me. I may have gotten past the slightly slimy texture otherwise.

- Stacey

Did not like it

I expected it to be a different texture, actually spit it out after chewing a bit. Not for me.

- Melissa

Great snack!

I enjoyed this seaweed as a great snack. Tasty and healthy!

- Cecelia

Eh...

I really wanted to like these because they are a healthy snack, but I can't get past the fishy taste. They are also not as crunchy as I had hoped

- Eric

Never tried it..

But, it may be a good idea to add a zero before the decimal for its weight label. Without looking carefully, the package looks like it weights over a pound.

- Gabriel

Different...but good!

I don't think my family would enjoy these. Probably would not even be willing to try them, as they certainly are a bit odd. That being said, they were the perfect little something for me when I want a snack & I enjoy it even more knowing it's healthy! Will keep purchasing these!

- Deborah

Tasty

These packages are just the right size for a snack. The chips are crispy and didn't fall apart like some I have purchase do. The packages, once opened, do leave oil residue on whatever you set them on, so be careful.

- Marcella

Fun snack!

I love the crispiness of the seaweed! This is one of the best seaweed snacks I have tried.

- Leigh

Addicting!

One of my fav snacks and knowing that they are so healthy is a huge plus!

- Wanda

Organic Seaweed Snack

Not to my taste as a snack. I ended up crumbling it up in a roasted vegetable stew. The quality of the product and price were a good value.

- Luna

great value

Great value and love the flavor. Value better than grocery store.

- Ann

Great snack option

I love these because they are crunchy and not chewy like some seaweed. Perfectly salty. My only complaint is the package is too small to share with my kids. We usually eat two.

- Katherine

Love these things

All I wish is that they were just a little smaller to fit into my mouth better.

- Christina

Ok...not the flavor I like.

The organic seaweed original flavor is a good product and was a very good price when I made my purchase. But the onion flavored item of the same brand is my favorite and was not available at Thrive.

SeaSnax ORGANIC ROASTED SEAWEED GRAB & GO - CLASSIC

This is a very nice product, would like a more spicy version. Thanks !

Seaweed

It was very interesting. I did not like the taste so I did not use it as a snack. However, I did use it in salads and in a smoothie.

- Denise

Not my taste!

I thought as a snack this would be crispy but it was more like paper. Not my taste! Snack fail

- Eve

Sea weed

Not bad if you are into seaweed, not great either. I've been using them as an "I dare you" food to get rid of them.

- Michael

Seaweed

Nice, salty snack

- Denise

Favorite Snack

These are a must have in my purse! When I first placed one of these strips on my tongue, my taste buds went crazy! They were definitely thanking me! These offer a mild taste of salt with a hint of olive oil. Greatest part about them, the price!!!!

- Belinda

Great taste

I've had other seaweed snacks that don't taste that great. These have good flavor and consistency. Would be even better if more was in the package!

- Stephanie

great snack

This lil seaweed snack is good. They are just the right size and portion. I always get them when I shop. The price is great and I do look forward to eating them.

- Bridget

Love these!

Theses are awesome, healthy snacks. Even my 15 months old baby loves them.

- Agija

Honestly To Oily

Honestly I felt like they use to much oil to roast these. I've had other products similar that use no oil and are just as good.

- Deanna

Delicious

I love this brand of seaweed snacks. They're wonderfully crisp and light. I love to mix sliced smoked salmon/lox with cream cheese and put a little bit on these sheets. It's like a snack sized Philly roll, sans rice

- Amanda

Great snack

My kids love these for an on the go snack. Love that they are already portioned so that once they are opened they are all gone since they do not really keep well once opened. My kids absolutely love them and I love that it is a healthier option that some of the other things they could eat when out and about.

- Katy E

Great little snack

Buy some peppered herring and pair it with this salted/roasted seaweed and you have a perfectly seasoned bite of amazingness. Addictive salty crunch obtained by potato chips has been replaced by salted sea grass.

- Sarah

Amazing!

This came in my heathy snacks box. I usually run from seaweed, but this stuff is delicious!

- Tammy

Great seaweed snack!

Love these. Tasty seaweed snack and glad they are made with EVOO (and not canola oil which I've seen in another brand). However, each package is on the small side, so they are truly just a tiny seaweed snack. Super tasty and good for a treat or when you're craving something to munch on.

- Becky

Love them!

My daughter loves this as a snack. She eats the whole thing in one sitting.

- Stephanie

Awesome

Not full of junk oils such as canola, cottonseed, safflower, etc, that you will find in OTHER seaweed snacks.

- LT

great snack

These are thin pieces of seawood. They are roasted and crisp though they do have a tiny bit of a greasiness to them. Just the right amount of salt and the sheets don't break in the containter. My family likes these a lot.

- Karyn

A+

If you like seaweed snacks, you will probably like this. Good flavor, good ingredients, and a good salty snack!

- Carson

Awesome!!

Incredible taste, good for you, and fun to eat!!
If you like the seaweed paper found in sushi rolls, that is basically what this is, but even thinner -- melts in your mouth!!

- Martha

Strangely addictive

I don't even like seaweed, but I tried this brand on a whim, and holy moly, I can't stop eating it! It really is strangely addicting!

- Katherine

Nice Snack

I've tried several brands of roasted seaweed snack; this one is very good. Perhaps because it's organic (the others I tried weren't). My only complaint is the size....much smaller than the average, about half the size. That aside, if you sometimes yearn for a salty, crunchy snack, you won't be disappointed .

- Dorene Thompson

They really are strangely addictive

I love Sea Snax. Salty. Crispy. Only 15 calories and the fact that they have some nutritional value is also a huge plus. Pssst... and I love getting them through Thrive! So much less than I was paying for them at WF.

- Paula

Great snack

This is one of my favorite snacks! I love the saltiness.

- Katherine

Amazing

I buy the maximum number of these each time. The only guilt that I have in buying these is the crazy amount of packaging. Go for family packs if you are concerned. They are large sheets and no plastic. I am addicted. So are my kids. Less expensive sea weed snacks sold in the Asian stores in my area all seemed to contain corn oil.

- jennifer

Good snack at great price!

Besides eating them as a nutritious snack, you can use a pair of scissors and cut them into thin strips to add to noodles in broth and home-made miso soup!

- Irene

So Addicting!

I had been looking for seaweed snacks at all my local health food stores but it seemed like they were all processed with canola oil and I try my hardest to avoid that. Then I found these that are made with olive oil and they are so delicious, I'm completely addicted!

My entire family loves them! They are perfectly crunchy, low carb and low calories, and they taste awesome! They're by far my favorite snack and I don't have to feel guilty after eating them!

- J. Norton

They're perfect!

When someone suggested these to me, I was a bit skeptical. I'd had seaweed on sushi before, but the idea of eating it as a snack seemed a little weird. Boy, am I glad I tried it!

These are thin and crunchy and salty, and have now replaced chips in my house almost completely! There are only 3 ingredients: Seaweed, Olive oil, and Salt. That's it. No funky additives, preservatives, or dyes. Super low-cal, low sodium, and NO carbs. Best snack ever!

- Tyler Graham

Amazing healthy snack!

Seaweed has always been one of my favorite snacks. I find that this brand is one of the best since it is low in sodium, sugar free, and no artificial ingredients, among other great values.

Even my kids love these! I just wish they would include more sheets in every package.

- C. Fernandez

Light, fresh, and SEA-mply delicious

Ok lame pun aside, I LOVE these seaweed snacks!
I used to get seaweed snacks from the grocery store, and sometimes they'd be too oily or soggy or just plain bland. I'd never tried or seen this brand before so I decided to order a couple to see if I'd like them. SO happy I did. They always pack a huge fresh flavor and I like to crumble them over rice! The price here is great so I'll definitely be stocking up.

- Kristy M.

Grab and Go At It's Best!

Being Asian, I have tried many brands of seaweed. I love this brand and would give it high marks for flavor, freshness. It also lacks the oil flavor seaweed sometimes has. Unlike other brands, this one is not soggy.

Other flavors of this snack can be over powering with flavor. Be sure to stick with the original! I love to take these with me when I travel- even though the person next to me on a plane may not be so happy.

- Li Gordon

packaging!

These are fabulous, however I dislike the packaging - a plastic tray to protect the seaweed. That being said I am sure there are few packaging options for a product so fragile in nature...

- Elysia

Great Toddler Snack!

My little girl absolutely loves seaweed snacks. These are my favorite to give her because they have high-quality oil instead of "vegetable" oils.

- Erica

No bad stuff

There is a lot of good stuff in these grab & go backs, and no bad stuff. From the seaweed to the olive oil, you can count on a tasty and satisfying healthy snack.

Thrive Market does a great job carrying the foods and other items people really want to get when they are trying to live a better life.

- C. Show

Simply salty

I like seaweed snacks, and these are pretty good. However, they have a bit too much salt for my taste. I do like that they use sea salt though. The fact that these use so many healthy ingredients makes them a go to snack though, especially if I am craving salt.

These are so good that even someone who has never had seaweed can enjoy them. They don't taste as you would expect them to, and really remind me of just a healthy chip.

- Glen

Great chip alternative

I prefer these to traditional potato chips. They are so delicious and so much healthier. They make a great snack and also go good with a sandwich or wrap.

I find myself snacking on these a lot when I am at work too. They are always the talk of the office.

- Stef M.

Takes some getting used to

I was never a fan of seaweed, raw or cooked. However, eating better to get healthier and to lose weight, seaweed seemed inevitable for my new menus. This roasted seaweed snack is a good start for me. At first bite, I wasn't impressed. I think it was the texture combined with an unfamiliar taste.

For me, it wasn't until I found a few recipes with roasted seaweed as one of the ingredients before I could really give this product a chance.

- Roxanne Gregory

Better Oil in the Ingredients

I switched over to these because other brands use canola oil in their ingredients. SeaSnax uses Olive Oil which is generally regarded as a much healthier oil than other types of oils. I'm trying to watch the unhealthy fats I put into my diet, so this has been a great change for me. They taste pretty good too!

- John D.

Not the best, but ok

I like seaweed, and I've tried a few brands. SeaSnax isn't bad, but it's not the best I've ever tried. The price is affordable, but in terms of taste, it's good, but not great. I found it a little too salty, which kind of threw off the flavor for me.

They're about on par with the ones I get at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, so I'm giving it three stars because it's not bad, but it's not blow your mind good either.

- Mark Wilson

Not fishy tasting at all

I tried these out as a way to get off snacking on chips and crackers. One thing I didn't really know was that seaweed has something of a fish taste, and I'm not a big fish person. But it wasn't that strong or overpowering, so it's a minor thing.

I like the crispness of the seaweed and the fact that it's got olive oil in the mix. Olive oil has a lot of healthy fats that doesn't make you feel guilty, so it's another reason to buy these snacks.

- Melanie Woods

Crisp and delicious

I know a lot of people don't like seaweed because they think it tastes like you're eating something that's been in the ocean forever. Well duh, that's the whole point. Raw seawood is about as healthy a snack as you can get. It's so much better than greasy potato chips, and it's got a crunchy, full taste I really enjoy.

And SeaSnax uses olive oil, which has all kinds of health benefits. It's healthier than vegetable or canola oil, and it gives the seaweed a unique flavor. Really dig these as alternative to fattier snacks on the shelves.

- Michael W.

Flavorful and Addictive

These are not the kind of seaweed snacks to eat in little morsels. They're really flavorful and you can go through a bag in one sitting if you're not careful. SeaSnax makes some other products I like, but the seaweed is my favorite.

It's kind of strange to be eating something that grows in the ocean I know, but once I got over that squeamish feeling, I really got into seaweed and it's health benefits. This is as natural as you can get, just seaweed, olive oil and sea salt.

- May Walton

Seaweed snacks are good

Who knew seaweed could be so good. I was a little apprehensive to try these at first, but at the recommendation of a friend I gave it a go. I was not disappointed.

It's a quick and easy snack. Great flavor. I like that it's healthy and helps curb my craving for chips. I would love to see them come in some varied flavors.
