Known for hot summers and limited rainfall, New Zealand’s hilly valleys produce a range of wines including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc. Today, more than 75 wineries—mostly boutique and family-run operations—call the area home, including Haast.

The History of Haast

After living in the United Kingdom for many years, New Zealand couple Royce and Sue McKean returned home in 2004 and promptly fell in love with an 800-acre sheep farm in Waipara. The couple planted 160 acres of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris grapes, and partnered with winemaker Evan Ward to coax out their best flavors.
