Why You’ll Love Stevia Sweetened Baking Chips - Dark Chocolate
Chocolate doesn’t always have to be the bad guy. Sometimes it actually can be good for you, especially if you indulge in the semi-sweet dark chocolate that comes naturally from the seeds of the cacao tree. This type of chocolate has been known to reduce blood pressure, stimulate the brain, and maintain heart health. How sweet is that?
Lily’s Sweets takes all that goodness and stuffs it into each morsel of their fair trade certified dark chocolate baking chips. Sweetened only with stevia, a plant-sourced sugar substitute, there’s no added enhancers, which makes these chips a healthy way to bake cookies or amplify pancakes. Because of their simple makeup, Lily’s Sweets’ chocolate chips are gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan.
Nutritional value of Lily's Sweets Dark Chocolate Baking Chips
Lily's Sweets baking chips are no ordinary sweet treat. They have zero grams of sugar in the entire bag and also provide a dose of fiber and protein in each serving. Even better, a serving also provides six percent of the daily recommended value of iron, which is great for vegans who can’t get iron from animal products.
Dark chocolate has been the focus of much research in the last several years, as many look to find positive benefits that can help rationalize eating it on the regular. And the good news is that scientists and experts have found many. Whether eaten alone or as part of a recipe, dark chocolate can lead to a number of healthy outcomes, such as:
- Reducing the risk of stroke. In 2011 and 2012, a pair of highly cited Swedish studies confirmed that eating chocolate can reduce the risk of a stroke. Both men and women who consumed a large quantity of chocolate (about 45 grams a week) lowered their risk of stroke by 19 percent over those who didn’t eat much at all.
- Improving heart health. Dark chocolate is a well-known “supplement” for heart health. It lowers blood pressure and bad LDL cholesterol, and even reduces a person's risk for heart disease. Dark chocolate is also helpful in reducing inflammation, which can lower risk of cardiovascular disease.
- Staving off hunger. Although heavy amounts of chocolate are not recommended for dieting, eating in moderation does lower a person's desire to eat. Chocolate is relatively rich in fiber, which in turn provides a full feeling. That makes it a good snack between meals.
- Nixing that persistent cough. Next time you’re sick, skip the cough syrup and reach for some dark chocolate instead. It contains an ingredient called theobromine, which reduces the sensitivity of the vagus nerve. This is the part of the brain that triggers a small itch in the throat leaving you with the urge to cough.
- Making you happier. Of course eating chocolate makes most people happy, but there’s more to it than that. Chocolate encourages increased serotonin production, which boosts mood and fights depression, and can even reduce stress levels.
- Stimulating the brain. Cocoa has anti-clotting properties that thin out the blood and make it easier for it to flow throughout the body, particularly to the brain. This can result in a more alert and awake feeling. A British study even confirmed that those that ate chocolate did better in mathematical tasks. So, the next time you feel stressed about an upcoming test or presentation, just eat some chocolate.
What is stevia?
Lily's Sweets uses stevia to enhance their dark chocolate baking chips, rather than opting for traditional sugar, which can have a negative impact on the body. So what is stevia? It’s a sugar substitute that comes from the leaves of a plant known as Stevia rebaudiana. It was approved for use as a sweetener by the FDA in 2008. That’s because the leaves contain steviol glycosides, which have been found to be 150 times as sweet as sugar, making it a more effective option. Stevia also has a negligible effect on blood glucose, which is why it’s a popular ingredient for dieters looking to control carbohydrate intake.
Cooking with dark chocolate baking chips
While chocolate tastes just great all by itself, it also works well in many recipes. In particular, dark chocolate baking chips like those provided by Lily’s Sweets can be melted down for use in a variety of desserts, sauces, and dips. Here are just a few of our favorite uses:
Great for tea parties, parting gifts, and hot cocoa season, these chocolate-dipped spoons are incredibly easy to make. Just melt a bag of Lily’s Sweets Dark Chocolate Baking Chips in a bowl in the microwave, then dip plastic spoons in and top with crushed candy cane, candied ginger, nuts, or even more chocolate chips.
Zucchini? What zucchini? This may be the biggest covert operation in food. Though the squash is used to make these muffins super moist and healthy, raw cacao powder, dark chocolate baking chips, honey, vanilla, and a banana add in the sweetness. The best part—they’re Paleo-friendly and gluten-free.
Is it a popcorn ball? A rice krispie treat? A baked trail mix bar? Trick question—it’s actually all of the above. This super nutritious, kid-friendly recipe pairs dark chocolate chips with sprouted popcorn, pecans, coconut chips, dried fruit, honey, almond butter, and some spices for a treat you can eat on the go or save for dessert.
Other fun uses for dark chocolate chips:
- Make your own trail mix
- Melt and drizzle on top of fruit
- Melt and pour over crackers for a sweet coating (just wait for it to dry)
- Add into chili for a special secret ingredient
- Mix and blend with hazelnuts for homemade Nutella
- Melt and pair with spices to make instant mole sauce
- Add to your favorite smoothie for a sweet burst

Amazing!! I sometimes add these to Halo-Top Ice Cream - no guilt! I also used in gluten free muffins - fabulous!
Great sale on the chips and they taste good
I was wondering why no one had made chocolate chips with Stevia before. But glad someone finally did. They're great!

Thought 4 sure chips were going to be melted, BUT Happily not! Love love love Thrive market for all products!
Love thrive market!!
Dark Chocolate Sugar-Freedom
Delicious. Rich, full-bodied chocolate - so good these deserve to be rated like a fine wine. Expensive but worth it.
I already know the Lily's is good. It took over a week for my order to get here and I do not know who was at fault. Not mine as I had the shipping send me a text as to when they were delivered. I brought them in immediately after delivery. All packages of chips were melted. I will not order these from you again. Big loss for both of us!
Best chips EVER
I was so excited to stumble upon these little gems. They taste fantastic and don't have any added sugar. WIN/WIN
I LOVE these chocolate chips! I eat a paleo diet and like to make zucchini bread and banana bread and these are the chocolate chips I always use! I was apprehensive because of the price, but let me tell you they are worth it to beat that sweet tooth!!
So very glad to have some chocolate without dairy! Love it.
these were the first chocolate chips other than NESTLE that I have tried from this site.. I wanted to find a healthy and better product but was skepticle of the taste... PROVED myself wrong.. these are great!
Lilly's stevia sweetened chocolate chips
I haven't tried them yet but love the thoughtful way they were shipped in insulated bag to keep them from melting.
no chips just 1 big chunk of chocolate
Stevia sweetened choc chips came in but melted in 1 big chunk. Could not use them for my cookies.
Stevia chocolate chips
I enjoy these chocolate chips and don't miss the ones with sugar at all.
I have to admit that I was skeptical when I bought these chocolate chips. How in the world could stevia (which in my opinion makes everything taste like soap with an afterbite) not destroy good chocolate? Well... You can not taste that stevia soap or afterbite and these chips are delicious.... Just don't open the bag until you are ready to use them in a recipe or you will want to sit and eat the whole bag. I had to hide it on myself...
THANK YOU FOR THIS PRODUCT!!
As a T2 diabetic, it is very hard to find low-carb, sugar-free chocolate chips for baking, this is the only one I have found and tried so far! People think diabetics need to reduce sugar but actually we need to reduce ALL refined carbs.
- Annette L
cheapest stevia chocolate chips i could find
These little morsels are wonderful to eat plain or use in baking.
nobody suspects that there is no sugar in them, good for the sensitivity in my teeth!
These are the best sugar free chocolate chips that I have bought. They are sweetened with stevia.
Lily's is the Best!
The ingredients are really good. The taste is awesome. Best stevia sweetened chocolate, I think.
Stevia Sweetened Baking Chips - Dark Chocolate
Excellent quality, taste & price
Dark chocolate chips
They are very good can't really tell the difference to me that they have stevia instead of sugar
Hard to find stevia chocolate chips. Great pricing.
These have a rich chocolate taste. They are my favorite chocolate chip.
CHOCOLATE CHIPS WITHOUT THE SUGAR
Lilys stevia sweetened chocolate chips let me enjoy this treat without the sugar buzz I hate. If you ate them side by side a regular chocolate chip you would probably notice a difference, mainly in the mouth feel as they melt a tad more slowly, in my opinion. I did not detect any bitterness from the stevia, and don't have a problem digesting alcohol sugars, so that wasn't a problem, either. They are excellent in baked goods or mixed with nuts, seeds, etc. for snacking.
For Dark Chocolate These Are Good
I don't like dark chocolate all that much but these are very good baked into things. We're trying to avoid sugar and bad sweeteners and this was just the ticket.
Dark chocolate baking chips
These are fantastic
Yummy Chocolate Chips
I have been craving chocolate since I started eating Paleo. these are the bomb!
yummy and guilt-free!
Lily's is by far the best tasting sugar-free dark chocolate I have ever tried (and I'm a confirmed chocoholic!). These chips are great for everything you'd normally use chocolate chips for - cookies, trail mix, eating straight, or (my fave) making ganache. (Did you know you can make ganache from these chips plus coconut cream(er)?) Definitely a repeat purchase!
Love these li'l chips!
These are the only chocolate chips I have found that are sweetened with stevia. I haven't actually baked with them yet- I use them in my trail mix. They are a perfect cure for my sweet tooth!
Lily's stevia chocolate chips
Excellent. Can be used in cookies, cakes and bars. Can be melted down with coconut oil and a little more liquid stevia and poured into molds-- to be kept in freezer.
These are great, I bought them for baking and cooking. Mostly I just eat them right out of the package. I've added them to pancakes. They will not disappoint but, you'll probably eat more than you planned!
Real, versatile, good chocolate
Melts well, can use for baking, but also mixes well with nuts for making candy--which saves $$--and good candy. Great for cookies or pancakes or chocolate covered strawberries.
These are amazing! Vegan and sugar-free & they taste just like a regular sugar-filled chocolate chip. I'm only using these from now on.
I'd totally buy this again. This is seriously good chocolate and you'd never know its sugar free.
Very good item for those who need some snacks which are healthy 55% dark chocolate (better than reg. Chocolate chips) - sugar free with stevia - good taste (miniscule bitter taste).
A chocolate chip that isn't full of sugar! We love these! I don't love them straight out of the bag (yet I still eat them this way) but they're great in cookies or melted and used like you would any chocolate. They have the slight mouth feel/taste of sugar alcohol from the erythritol but I'm overly sensitive to that. Others I've shared them with don't notice. They're a little spendy but worth it for the convenience and they are a treat after all.
I was disappointed that they weren't soy-free.
Stevia Sweetened Baking Chips - Dark Chocolate
These are wonderful! I was hesitant to order because I just didn't think they would taste good, but I was pleasantly surprised! Wish I had ordered more than one package!
Best chocolate chips ever
I usually don't like the bitter taste of Stevia but these are amazing and no guilt eating them!!
Nothing more to say "YUMM"
These Dark Chocolate Chips are So Delicious and, to me, may taste even better than sugared chocolate chips. I used them in my banana bread recipe and they Purrfect. If you need to reduce or completely omit sugar from your diet, Life Can Go On With Lily's Stevia Dark Chocolate Chips!
Not crazy over the sugar substitution.
Really liked how these chocolate chips melted. I am trying to cut back on sugar but never had anything with Stevia as an alternative. Although the taste was not overpowering, it was significant enough where I could taste the difference from real sugar. It was not terrible but it will definitely take some getting use to. They are also vegetarian and dairy free so I will continue to purchase.
- B. French
These chocolate chips are great, I use them all the time! They're the right amount of sweet and it's so wonderful that Lily's uses Stevia instead of sugar. If you're looking for a good sugar-free chocolate, this is the one!

Delicious sugar-free dark chocolate
My wife loves to bake and as we get older, she's experimenting with healthier alternatives. I've been apprehensive of some of her substitutions because they don't always turn out great, but bless her for trying. However, she was spot on with these chocolate chips. Normally sugar substitutes don't hold up to the real thing, and while I could still taste a difference in these chips, it didn't have any bearing on how good they tasted. It was a slight difference but not a bad difference at all. She puts them in her almond flour cookies and her gluten-free pancakes, and sometimes we even just munch on them right out of the bag. I like them because they taste great, my wife likes them because they're healthier, but either way I'm glad she bought these and I'll let her know that this one was a win-win.
- T. Williamson
These chips are great in my seasonal cookie recipe! I have a family member with sugar issues and these made eating my cookies more reasonable. :)
First, I am so happy there is no stevia aftertaste! The only flavor that I get is the sweet dark chocolate flavor that is expected and desired. My husband, on the other hand, said they gave him abdominal discomfort. He was eating them straight out of the bag and in handfuls. :)
- Terri Morrison
Love these chips!! Made wonderul sugar free peanut clusters!!
I was shocked at just how good these are. I am back to order more. They taste wonderful!
Love these chips!
Healthy alternative for chocolate chip cookies!
Finally chocolate I can have!!
Loved these chips the first time I bought them. The second time They didn't make it here in this Texas heat they melted into one large bag of goo.Thrive did try to send it with an cool pack but it didn't help. Luckily I flattened the package and froze it into a large chocolate bar. So it is still edible. Just a little hard to chop into the pieces I need.
Wonderful sugar-free chocolate chips
These are the best. Finally, a stevia-sweetened chocolate chip! I use these for baking, and my husband just eats them right out of the bag. This price is way less that what I find on the shelf, too.
Great in my coconut flour cookies as well as straight out of the bag!
This product was an answer to my prayers! Not being able to find dark chocolate that didn't have under 4g of sugar was impossible unless u want to eat bitter completely unsweetened choc :(. I love love ❤ love these choc Chips! They are low in fat, sugar, dairy and have amazing strong chocolate dark joy! Thank the Lord!!
I have been using these for years. Thrive's price is by far the best I have seen anywhere. It may be below normal wholesale!
I hope they remain on the market!
Expensive, even for Thrive
In just a few short weeks that I've been on Thrive, I've bought from Bob's Red Mill, Larabar, Raos and Alba Botanica. Lily's Chocolate was my latest buy, and these chips are good, but I don't think they're good enough for me to spend nearly six dollars a bag for chocolate chips. Natural or not, that's a lot of money for a bag that can be gone in one or two sittings. I'm hoping Thrive brings the price down a little more so I can justify continuing to buy these chips.

Wonderful sugar free chips
Made with stevia, these dark chocolate chips have no added sugar and are perfect for cookies. I taste no difference when I use these for baking. In fact, the dark chocolate probably gives my cookies a more interesting flavor, and the dark chocolate has no aftertaste. Perfect for gluten free diets like mine, in which I missed the taste of real chocolate chips, but now I have them again.
- Alanna W.
Finally, vegan and GF chips
If you're on a gluten free diet or are a vegan, these dark chocolate chips will change your life. They are all natural, and they use stevia for sugar, so there's nothing added to these chips.
They bake just like regular milk chocolate chips, usable in cookies and cakes, but with the benefit of having that unmistakable dark chocolate taste that enhances your baking.
- Audrey Wright
The kids favorite
My children absolutely love these dark chocolate chips. They are all about eating healthy and these chips allow them to enjoy their sweets without feeling bad about it.
My kids won't let me get away without making them chocolate chip pancakes with these every Saturday morning.
Dark chocolate fan
While I still haven't gotten used to the taste of sugar alternatives, and no matter how many people try to tell me you can't tell the difference, you can. I do like these chocolate chips though, aside from the strange taste from the stevia.
The melt up nicely in chocolate chip cookies, which is very important.
- Nicki Wheat
Great for Saving Calories
Every time I'm looking at stevia-sweetened chocolate chip recipes online, this is the brand they recommend, and I understand why. They're really good! They don't taste the same as regular milk chocolate chips, but they taste surprisingly good for what they are. They do have a very slight aftertaste, but it's not nearly as bad as some other Stevia-sweetened products that I've tasted. They melt down slightly different than milk chocolate, but it doesn't seem to make any difference unless you're melting it entirely down like for a dipping sauce or something. These are just amazing in chocolate chip cookies.
Absolutely LOVE Lily's!
Nobody does stevia sweetened chocolate like Lily's! Thrilled to find such a great sugar-free options here.
So happy to see these here!
These are my favorite chocolate chips. No one would know they are sweetened with Stevia, trust me!
