Few personal care products play as important a role as deodorant. It’s what saves us during sweaty situations like first dates, job interviews, and hardcore gym sessions. Plus, it’s one of the few products we use without fail every single day.
But if you’re not using the right formulation, your deodorant might let you down—and we don’t just mean with an unfortunate scent. A few studies have linked the aluminum in deodorants to breast cancer and kidney disease, though the science isn’t conclusive.
Instead of risking it, make your own DIY deodorant that’s just as powerful. Baking soda helps fight odor, and hydrating coconut oil keeps the delicate skin of your underarm feeling smooth and soft. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for a subtle fragrance.
Your wallet will feel the difference, too. This DIY deodorant costs way less than the store-bought variety—and you probably already have the ingredients at home!
3 tablespoons coconut oil
2 tablespoons baking soda
2 tablespoons cornstarch
5 drops of your favorite essential oil (lavender, tea tree, geranium, etc.)
Combine all ingredients in large bowl. Transfer to a sealed glass jar. Store in a cool, dry place.
