The juicing and blending world is sort of my jam. In my eyes, there’s no easier, tastier, more efficient way of getting a ginormous amount of nutrients into your system than via fresh juices, superfood smoothies, and creamy nut milks.
When you whip up a boatload of fruits and veggies and other plant-based powerhouses and start sipping, you get a quick, easily digestible hit of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytonutrients and other goodies. And as a wellness activist and cancer thriver, you better believe I practice and rally behind something so beneficial to our health. That’s why I’ve been a super-drink guzzler and cheerleader for over a decade.
When I was diagnosed with a stage IV incurable (but thankfully slow-growing) cancer on Valentine’s Day, 2003, I threw myself into learning all I could about how best to support my health and happiness. Enter juicing and blending. Since then, I’ve experimented with countless combinations for nutritious fruit and veggie elixirs while sharing overall healthy lifestyle insights, tips and tricks with the KrisCarr.com community. This immunity-boosting beverage is all about vitamin C, which may also help to prevent high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Win-win! I love the purple-haze color that red cabbage lends to this sweet and spicy juice, but green cabbage is a fine replacement if you don’t have red on hand.
Yield: 2 servings (16-20 Ounces)
4 stalks celery
2 small apples, cored and seeded
1 1/2 cups red cabbage
1-inch piece of ginger, peeled
Wash and prep all ingredients. Juice all ingredients.
One of my favorite raw food desserts is chocolate avocado pudding (don’t be grossed out—it’s actually a surprisingly delicious treat). I like to think of this smoothie as the sip-worthy version of that fabulous recipe. This is a perfect goodie when chocolate cravings pay a visit!
Yield: 2 servings (20-24 ounces)
2 small bananas, frozen
1 to 2 Medjool dates, pitted
1 1/2 tablespoons cacao powder
1 3/4 cup almond milk or non-dairy milk of choice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup baby spinach, tightly packed
Wash and prep all ingredients. Blend till smooth and serve.
